I'm in the market for a new pair. I've been using an old, musty pair of CCMs since high school, which is over 10 years and more pounds ago. I play in a fairly competitive beer league, and I want good protection against slashes and the occasional crash. So I don't want top of the line, but I do want good value. I'd say my budget is $30 USD tops or so.

Thus far I've been eyeing RBKs, Eastons, and CCM Vectors.

i've got eastons which are great but havent taken too many knocks with them either. On the other hand, some of the others have them and don't complain.

I upgraded myself to some Rbk 5ks. I like them a lot...there's a reason why a large number, I would say majority, of NHLers use Rbk/Jofa pads too. But for beer league, a 4k is enough, and is $22. The 5k is only like $3 more for a little more protection, but personal experience tells me I don't need that much for an adult league.

The CCM Vectors arn't too bad too I hear, lotta people like the strap system they have on them.

I got the RBK 4Ks, but I find they're just way too bulky. Plus they slip down, which drives me nuts.

So I am sending them back and ordered a pair of Easton Stealth S5s, which are more along the style that I'm used to (less bulk, no slippage, slash guard).

Pair these with the Easton Classic shoulder pads I also ordered, and I've turned from a CCM man to an Easton man overnight!
