Eklund is outing himself on Tuesday

well I guess we will soon know who he is and if he is actually on the inside on rumors or not...

Well, chances are I am about to "out" myself by what I'm about to do, but I need your help. I am angry. Angry at the current situation, and the complete lack of respect fans and employees of hockey are getting these days. If you are a fan, you are being taken for granted, if you are player you are being misrepresented, if you are an employee you are having serious problems making ends meet while these rich guys fight over whether or not the average salary will be 1.5 or 1.8 million. I know most of you don't think i am am legit..I'm making up stuff (I've been doing it for years some say) Yes I have been posting rumors for years over at Flyersphans.com. Some have come true, but most haven't...that is the probability of rumors by nature.

http://hockeyrumors.blogspot.com/

tell him how this business of hockey and the owners and players have affected your life...

Why does he care if ppl dont take him seriously? I thought he was a "professional journalist" and an "insider". Why should he care what some ppl on some boards think of him...

That is, unless hes a BIG FRAUD SEEKING ATTENTION.

Oh wait...

He is.

I bet you we don't know come Teusday. He's done this stunt before. Once he was in "lots" of trouble because someone saw something he wrote at Flyersphans.com and he was going to lose his job for sure and we'd probably see it all in the papers and whatnot. Well, at least that's what he told us. He stopped posting for a few months, came back later like nothing had happened just offering us the "insiders" view of things.

Admit it, you love the torture as much as I do. :joker: :lol

This is what happens, when there's no hockey. We have to find other ways to entertain ourselves, and one of them is watching others get riled up over a blog.

Now he's resorted to making some pretty idiotic spelling errors that are not of the keystroke variety. This guy has got to be too stupid to be a writer because I've never seen a journalism major (or journalist for that matter) make such a spelling mistake that goes beyond a slip of the key, but an honest-to-god inability to spell without spell check.

The size limit here is pretty small so it's hard to tell. When I made it it was for 150x150 which is the max at the place I made it for. I just shrunk it down for use here a couple of seasons ago when the Leafs and Flyers were playing each other in the playoffs.

That is the start to his latest post. I now know this guy is just a fan....nothing else but a guy that is a wana be sports writer that has been having us on. :shakehead

I just have the feeling though that deep down this cad is a big NHL fan and is just very frustraited by the lock out so much that he felt by starting this he might somehow make a differance, or keep the fan's hopes up. I dont know. All I do know is that I am nolonger buying it. :(

The guy offered some entertainment and hope during a time when not much existed - it made the weeks and months go by a bit easier, and for those of us that figured he was just doing it for fun - hey, it's rumors. No harm done if they aren't true, and if they come true, all the better.

Some people took this all WAY too seriously. It's rumors people - he's not trying to peddle fact, or trying to misstate the truth. It's a fantasy league for CBA-watchers. Just enjoy the humor and positive outlook and leave it at that.

I feel alot like you about this. It was some entertainment in the darkest hours wasent it? Oh well, I just wish I had come to the info on this guys past on the flyer's boards before. He was just a guy looking to hit the lottary on a prediction so people like us would start believing his rants.

Think of it this way:

Last Monday, I came to the HF boards with some actual information from an actual source about a cap/tax porposal the sides had been mulling over. After I posted it on the boards (and I have over 300 posts), I was told my post would be deleted if I didn't provide a source to a mod. After some back and forth, everything was sussed out.

HOWEVER, had I created my own blog and posted the same information there, and then linked to it on the HF Boards, there would have never been a problem in the first place because I was linking to a "source" rather than acting like a primary one.

So whether you think Eklund's full of sh-t or not, his (dis)information has made it more difficult for the truth to get out there. He's clouded the debate with his "inside" info, which has yet to pan out in any way, shape or form.

Well, you have to hand it to the guy. He did generate some attention that he must feel is so important to him since he obviously has no other life. ;)

Since his latest rant is all but accepting the fact that his "sources" were all wrong and that his prediction of a new deal is not going to happen and scuttle his dreams of being the BIG hockey insider on the web, he will now go into hiding again in a few weeks.

He's typical of the cancerous effects blogs have had on the internet. They are glorified message boards, for people who don't have the skills to defend their opinions and so they post them in such a way that they stand alone uncontested.

Does anyone think any reputable paper will print anything this yahoo has to say? Let him send out his "big article" and see just how many media outlets think he is credible.

Can you imagine seeing on the front page of the New York Times... "Eklund Blasts NHL and NHLPA... Read All About It!". Every day, it gets funnier. I've gone from despising the guy to actually enjoying his work again on an ironic level. It almost seems like he's doing his blog tongue in cheek now. Like he knows people have caught on and is going on for comedy sake. I'm still waiting for the "my sources tell me Goodenow is a space alien" blog entry.

p.s. Wouldn't it be funny if he couldn't even get his article printed in his "own" Philly paper? :lol

p.s.s. I just thought of something... does he know that a story like this is due to come out in the near future and is planning on taking credit for it? This story he's talking about better have the name Eklund on it. If it does, then I owe him an apology.

This guy is NOTHING but a guesser. His sources are "me, myself and Irene". His "article" will not be printed and he will probably bash the main stream media, the league and the PA for it not being printed. In fact I think that his latest blog comments are written with the hope that his fame as being a so called "insider" through all this will get him recognized somehow. He now must realize his predictions on the lockout ending are probably not going to happen, so he is just shifting gears so to speak.

Cancerous?! Lies?! Let's back up.

I think everybody is going a little over the top on labeling rumours as 'lies' or 'cancerous'. Are we that frustrated that it all comes down to labeling and name calling because no one can scoop the solution before somebody else?

I have no interest in defending Eklund but the 'quality' of rumours and wild guesses by the 'legitimate media' have been just about as accurate. Because it gets printed in a daily adds very little to its credibility. Anybody want to try to defend Garrioch or Fischler or Brooks or Strachan and the sophisticated, erudite rumours they have circulated and re-cycled? Anybody want to try to back up Sportsnet? Or how about the 'truth' of Glen Healy's rants? Or how about the veracity of all the leaks strategically put out by either side? Anybody got a valid reason why we ought to attribute more legitimacy to these simply because they have a newspaper or website by-line? Does having a link make something truer than if it doesn't?

Let's face it: everybody is in the shoveling business these days. And it's not the truth they are shoveling. It's guesses, speculation, hopes, wishes, wild stabs, rumours, dreams, etc, etc. So read what you want. Believe what you want. Ignore what you want (including this post). Nothings going to really be "true" until we get to a press conference announcing Angelina Jolie as the new head of the NHLPA and Jessica Simpson as the new commish of the NHL. That would be my dream and wish. At least we would watch the press conferences and not have to put up with those weasily, sour faced, boobs in suits. We'd be watching real boobs.
