It's confirmed by the team.

The @PredsNHL have re-signed Mattias Ekholm (@MatEkh14) to a two-year, $2.075 contract. More details to come at nashvillepredators.com

So it really was just about the term.

Good to see him locked up for two more seasons and that they got it done before it went to the final stages of arbitration

Solid. We now sit with just under $14mil under the cap with only Ryan Ellis ($1.5 last year) to sign.

Any word on Ellis and his contract? He has 3 year left to make it to UFA status. I can't imagine he will sign for longer than that. My guess is maybe 2.0M per year for two years.

Nope. This is just a gap contract.

Yep. Hasn't proven enough to get a longer term/higher salary deal, so this gives him a shot to show he's worth it, and us a chance to lock him up before he hits UFA age.

Also ensures that any team he might be traded to (i.e. a top 6 center deal) will be able to retain him for a good few years, which gives him some good value in that regard.

Fair job by "low-ball" Poile.

Eliis wouldnt and shouldnt get 2 million per. He still hasnt proven anything. I would guess 2 years and at most 1.5 AAV. His previous deal at 1.5 was just his ELC. he hasnt earned a raise and really only warrants slightly more money than Ekholm.

Jeezus, that's low (1.1). He's almost a lock on the swedish national team. Worth more than Gunnarsson etc. Lowball. Must have threatened with AHL or something.

He only just secured his roster spot this past season. 1.1 is a fair deal for a kid coming off an ELC

Personally I would jump up and down for an 12% raise. He's rock solid with an offensive upside. 7 points in 10 WC games. Fire the agent, Mattias!

This is a good deal for both. Didn't lowball him and gave him a couple of years to adjust to Laviolettes system.

Personally think it is a fair deal for both sides. Don't think he wanted out, just wanted term. He has two years to show improvement and build his case for a much better contract and adjust to change. Really glad he is signed.
