Many entertaining and ridiculous posts on this thread from both sides.

Leafs would not be interested in a Nudge/Marner deal.

Also as it now stands - Nudge < Marner < Drai < Matthews < McDavid.

The Oil did not sign Drai to trade him so he is not going anywhere in the near future.

I'd rather have Marner with his sub 1 million cap hit for the next 2 years compared to Draisaitl's 8.5 million cap hit... Not making a comment on who is better now or in the future. But Leafs couldn't deal with that 8.5 million cap hit and have the cap to sign Nylander, Matthews + a top 4 defender they need.

As a fan of neither team, I think that the Oilers should try to pry Tavares from the Isles for Nuge and a 1st or 2nd in 2018.:handclap:

 How does trading for Marner make any sense? Edmonton wont be able too afford Marner once McDavid's $12.5 million kicks in in 2108 and how can Edmonton afford Marners $7.5 million or so and RNH+1st+2nd for Marner makes no sense especially for the Leafs.

Marner would take a hometown discount in Edmonton to be sandwiched between McDavid and whoever. Ezpz

So this is what it looks like when two teams have an embarrassment of riches.

Listen, you both have quality players.

Admittedly RNH had a bad year but EDM should consider a team that actually needs his services instead of forcing the ridiculous logic that he's greater than Marner upon Leaf fans.

Marner has had an arguably great year for a rookie and Leaf fans are happy with him but would still never trade him for any centre (except for glaringly obvious considerations - RNH is not a glaringly obvious consideration. Give it up....) considering they have so many quality ones, even one as good as Drai.

Are you having fun embarrassing yourself? Might want to look up the definition of "hometown"

Alberta is Ontario 2 with all the transplants living here. Marner would feel right at home, and the home would be extra spacious with McDavid and Gretzky, 2 more ontarya boys sharing the same space with him. Marner could be apart of the next Oilers dynasty with McDavid as Gretzky was in the 80's. He would sign for less here than in the 6ix.

So... for those of you who don't want to read the first 5 pages...

A non-Oilers poster comes in and offers a lop sided deal that favours the Oilers.

95% of Oiler fans agree the deal makes no sense for the Leafs at all.

A couple TML posters post almost equally bad offers the other way and feel the need to bash RNH.

The usual suspects in both sides of the fan bases get into a wiener measuring contest about their players using a lot of "<<<<<<<<<<<<'" and ">>>>>>>>>>".

In the end both sides decide to keep all of their own pieces... no trade agreement to be seen here.

Close thread.

To be fair, there were a few that were reasonable in their response.

Big centre vs slightly built winger. I'd take Drai every time.

Draisaitl has been at his best McDavid's winger. Time will time if he an very good (and he better be at 8.5) centre

Wonder how Marner stats would look like playing with McDavid instead of Bozak. Heck Marner never even got prime time PP time.

If you're asked by local propaganda media who'd you love to play for, especially if the team about to draft you is where you're slated around to get drafted, you're not going to say anything otherwise. Just like leaves media did the same to McDavid but there was a video from before or McDavid laughing ad the leaves misfortunes. This is far too off topic that it doesn't really matter. Marner would take a hometown discount in oiler land and like it.

www.hockeyDB.com has Matthews, Bozek, Nylander, Marner, Kadri and Komarov all listed as centers. how many of them actually play center and do the Leafs even need Nuge?

Matthews, bozak, kadri, and Moore are the leafs centers. Marner was drafted as a centre but is too small to play that position, komarov isn't very good at face offs and nylander is probably gonna play centre when bozak leaves in free agency after this upcoming season. The only way the leafs are taking rnh is if Edmonton takes marleau, which they won't or if rnh is retained which Edmonton probably does not want to do.

With the Draisaitl signing today it's very likely that RNH will be on the move. So how about a trade benefiting both these teams.

Toronto

RHN
1st 2018
2nd 2018

Edmonton

Marner

RNH needs a change of scenery and I can bet he could easily be a sold 60+ point player under Babcock and Toronto also gains good picks in a deep draft. For Edmonton it's a no brainer, Marner would be magical on the McDavid's wing.

Lmao
Leafs counter with marner for McDavid.

good call, article published at the end of february of his draft year before the end of the season/the draft lottery, he was very wise to state a preference of what team would draft him with no certainty of what teams would be in range to.

smort

you should probably get a line to Marner to let him know that he prefers Edmonton over Toronto, he seems to be struggling with that concept on his own

Funny to offer to unload a centre with marginal value and offer it up to a team that is very strong at centre.

Habs should be interested in RNH.

Ew. No. Why?? The leafs still have years of control on marner, and why on earth would they take on a ballooned contract for a player that barely produces more than jvr; who the leafs are looking to trade- BECAUSE he is going to get a larger contract. This benefits edm so much it's not even funny. Leafs keep marner, edm can find a different dance partner if they think nuge and a couple late picks land the next 6 team controlled years of marner
