Byers for Stafford

Everyone: OMFG what?!

Dane Byers for Garrett Stafford

Everyone: Oh, Tambo!

I think this team should be more like a sitcom.

This better not be our biggest move :laugh:

I could see us making one more minor league deal to get some help for Oka and that's it. This 4 game oiler rally has taken all pressure off Tambo to make any moves and he won't make any. But of course "This will be a big summer for Tambo we will see what he does in FA and at the draft." {Copy and pasted from the last 4 or 5 years.}

Is this when we all start pretending we're Dane Byers and Garrett Stafford experts, and dissect the trade?

It would be idiotic to be buyers. Standing pat is probably the best idea for this. Why mess with a winning lineup?

That is EXACTLY what Tambo would say EXACTLY. A 4 game winning streak combo. The big question is does the team actually have a long term plan of how they want the team to be made up or do they flutter in the wind monthly as the team does well or does crappy.

No one says you go out to make a bad trade but if your long term make up of the team involves better Dmen that can play now and top 6 forward that has size and can play you better be looking at possibilities for players that are at a high level of performance right now.

You also have to look a a players history for consistency, for example Whitney, a very up and down player who happens to be playing well now but could be back in the press box in a game or two and is a FA this year.

We can't really afford to take on bad contracts next year and do we need a rental anyways?

Selling guys like Whitney and Jones for marginal picks, prospects sends the wrong message right now. Somebody referred to Whitney as being an internal rental and that makes sense. Make the push, if he leaves so what? The return for him probably would be minimal.

I think you just close out the season, making the playoffs or not as improvement has been obvious, then retool and reassess in the summer where you're more likely to do an NHLer for NHLer trade. We need to trim some fat but not right now.
