nice pickup. Seems like a good dude and a popular player in the room. He's the kinda guy who has his motor going every game, which for a relatively non-skill guy like Upshall is what you want to see.

Well done, Oilers! Upshall is a class act. Lots of energy, enthusiasm and apparently well-liked in the room. You now have 2/3rds of the Blues 4th line last year. Believe me, you won't be disappointed! He is also a great PK'er. I'm a little envious.

Didn’t this dude try out for the Canucks last year and get cut then end up back in St.Louis? I’m not excited.

Brodziak - Upshall was Blues best PK duo in long time. If Upshall has at least some legs left he's good fit on 4th line with Brodziak and PK specialist, they both can take a lot of icetime at PK and give top6 forwards all the time for 5on5 and PP.

Good move for the Oilers. Might as well try some PTO players, you never know who might surprise and mesh with a roster player or two.
Plus those guys are highly motivated.

There is no stat that can determine the most average player in the league.

Well, yeah, not in a real sense. I think it was something along the lines of his CF% or Expected GF/60 being right in the middle of the pack for all NHLers. I barely even remember it, just an association I have with his name.

He was released because the Blues wanted to sign him to a contract.
When the Blues started being sideswiped by injuries early in the year, they reached out again to Upshall. He was a late scratch from a Vancouver preseason game on against the Calgary Flames on Sept. 28. He signed a deal with the Blues two days later.

He says that when St. Louis first approached him he let Vancouver general manager Jim Benning know what was going on. Upshall says that Blues general manager Doug Armstrong spoke with Benning before Upshall took the St. Louis offer.
Upshall lands on his feet after walking the beat with Canucks

He’s played a lot with Brodziak over the last couple seasons, should be some ready made chemistry there

plus we had the worst home PK in league history for some reason, so hopefully some veteran specialists won't crumble under pressure like our PKers last year

Yeah if he has a good camp, he can ask the Flames for a contract lol

Nah, we got enough 4th liners

Yeah, the Flames have about seven guys that could play fourth line. Not overly concerned about a Versteeg situation where he saw how weak the Flames were at RW and figured he’d get more icetime.

Actually more likely is calgary losing someone like Graovac on waivers.

I would have signed him outright as well, but a PTO is fine.

I’m guessing it’s just a formality. We brought back Gryba on a PTO before giving him a two year deal.

Then Chia bought him out after a year and cost us 300k in cap space for 2 years . Chia his signing are gifts that keep on giving at least from the players point of view
