I'm wondering if its a precautionary thing. Remember, he came into the season late because he had COVID, maybe he needs a day to rest up.

Sounds like Tip wasn't happy with Neal's 5 on 5 play, but turned around and said Chiasson had a strong game and wanted to keep him in. None of this makes sense, similarly to benching Koekkoek.

Here's the quote from a Rishaug tweet:

“Nealer got a couple tonight one on the PP one on the faceoff but uh.. (pauses) ..we’ll see how things go, they’re a veteran line, there are still some areas of their game I’d like to see cleaned up.”

Showcasing? No. Everyone knows who and what he is.
The sad thing is that the Oilers don't have anyone better to replace him thus Chiasson remains in the lineup by default.
There's a few guys that are just as good as him to replace him. One of which scored 2 last night and got scratched today.

There is definitely better options than Chiasson currently on the roster.

Poor 5v5 play is par for the course for Neal and Tippett should know that at age 33 James Neal is what he is and he isn't going to change. All he's going to do is pout.
