Probably has nothing to do with him not being very good.

Sweet, he won a fight, he also bleeds goals against
So does Manning.

He also bleeds cap hit.

Lol at anyone trying to justify this awful trade. If we didn't win last night (and Manning was not essential in that win in the slightest), would this discussion even be taking place?

I’m not justifying it. Both players suck... manning just sucks more.

neither is Rattie or Reider or Lucic or Kassian or Brodziak or Puljujarvi or Cave or Manning or Petrovic or Wideman or Garrison or the prospect we got with Manning but oh well.

I really don't get the point you are trying to make?

Are you saying that we should not trade a junk player because we have some other pieces of junk?

Or are you complaying that what we got as return for a bad player is another bad player?

Caggiula had an awesome fight last night. No need to hate on the guy just because our GM traded him for public enemy #1.

How many goals is a fight worth again?

For real though this trade is absurd. Hopefully your ownership can clear out the rest of the dead weight that's sunk the franchise culture in Edmonton.

Atleast this trade made someone happy. Kid in this video seems super excited to be near the Mandog jersey.

Or it’s possible that the kids last name was Manning too. I choose to believe it was the Mandog.

100% convinced that Chiarelli knew he was being removed and the Caggulia for Manning was a big ****you before he got fired.

What a stupid dumb trade

**** you! Peter Chiarelli!

Flanking Toews & Kane

For one of the worst defenders in the league.

Manning is not that bad. He’s always unfairly made a scapegoat. Hitch needs to play him on the third pair and leave him there.

I've had these same thoughts and wondered the same thing. He knew he was on very thin and very soft ice with the coaching change and how bad the team was doing after Klefbom got hurt. Attaching a 3rd rounder to Wideman to get Petrovic was just as crazy. That pick and its condition could've been added to acquire something a bit better at the draft. The icing on the cake was extending Koskinen when he didn't need to be and for the dollar/term. I wasn't the biggest Caggiula fan but he should have garnered a better return than Manning. It's not a knock on Manning the person/player, it's a knock on the trade itself. I still don't get the Manning hate on this board...it's not his fault Chiarelli traded for him.

Removing the names from the trade...the trade was a forward regularly in an NHL lineup that can play anywhere from lines 1-4 that is gritty and scores some goals traded one for one for a guy who is at absolute best a bottom pair d-man, was healthy scratched by his former team (which was struggling) on a regular basis AND has an extra year on his contract.

Straight up sabotage.

Caggiula was given the opportunity to play on the Oilers top line but in McLellan and Hitchock fashion, gets bumped down after a game or a few shifts....coaching has been just as big a problem as management in terms of developing player confidence and chemistry. Both try new lines for a few games or a few shifts and then keep mixing, that's not how you develop chemistry or give guys a chance to prove they can perform with guys like McDavid and Draisatl. Caggiula was a valuable player, Manning is not so why in God's name would you pick him off the roster to trade for Manning? Tobias Rieder still has zero goals and Khaira is a pylon on skates with no hands, you couldn't have gotten rid of one of those two players instead? It's as if he had no clue what he was seeing on the ice or he was purposely screwing this team knowing he would get canned.
