Clear winner?

Trading a 70 point Centre, for a 28 year old winger, and a god awful Dman?

If Drai gets traded, its for a #1 Dman.

Agreed.

And again, I can’t stress this enough, trade and signs don’t happen and even if they did OP gave no idea of what Lee would want long term.

We’re having very different discussions on Lee signed at 4.5x5 vs Lee signed at 9x8.

Not if Draisaitl is the price. There is no discussion regardless of what Lee signs for.

Oh good, the classic "Draisaitl isn't a C" ridiculousness rears its head. Time to lock this thread perhaps?
Still doesn’t help the Islanders one bit. This isn’t roller hockey where defense is purely irrelevant. Even if you shift Draisaitl over to the middle from the wing, he still doesn’t solve the problem of a substantially sub-par blueline. This trade is a terrible mess for all 3 teams involved.

So you're rejecting this trade that makes your team better in the long run at forward because it doesn't address your team need at defense?

We value him as such. We’re not dealing him to you for Hamilton.
Wait, wait, wait, I know the answer here

It doesn't matter how much you value him, its what the market would bear for him. You have a need for D, so you are negotiating from a weakness to acquire, so you'd have to overpay.

The opposite is also true for Draisaitl heading your way.

Draisaitl > Hamilton in value. Not even close.

In any world that sees Draisaitl traded for either guy. Nobody is trying to sell either guy short (Oilers would love either player), but the proposed deal is awful.

I agree! I just don't get selling Lee or Bailey short though is all, I wouldn't trade Draisitl for either guy either. But calling a 40 goal scorer and 71 point winger (even if those are the best numbers they'll ever put up) depth players is perplexing.

Keep draisaitl and build a forward core around him and McDavid. My honest opinion would be trying to trade for a different center and trading RNH for help elsewhere. Change of scenery for him while he definitely still has value and not selling low like Eberle.

So, again, it seems that the entire issue seems to be based on the definition of the word "depth player". Okay, that's fair I guess, but it's splitting hairs in my opinion. Nobody thinks they are bottom feeders. But we are also suggesting, rightfully so, that they are a tier below Draisaitl.

That’s one thing and moving out Bellows is another one. They’d rather move out JHS or MDC instead of moving out Bellows at this moment who’s currently under ELC for 3 full seasons.

Just out of curiosity what would the asking price be on JHS?

"Worth more to the team than what would be received in a trade" would be the answer, imo.

Obvious off-the-chart talent, obvious concerns. Unless there was a strong pick/other player moving along with JHS he couldn't be a centerpiece to any trade. Seems like the type of player that's either going to thrive or return a 3rd round pick during the season (which is more than Dal Colle would fetch). "Thrive" might wind up being a PP specialist while playing limited minutes on the third, possibly second.

I think the Isles might try him at center. He's a playmaker so it does no good to have him on a line with Barzal (though their possession stats would probably be excellent). Then again, who's his wingers? Nelson, a defensive liability? Ladd on LW? Regardless of Ladd's positive net value on the ice a line of Ladd-Nelson-JHS or Ladd-JHS-Nelson would be frightening to watch for Isles fans.

Maybe JHS-One of our defensive prospects to get us another bonafide 7th d-man?

Both Lou and Trotz have said they have spoken to JHS, that the 22 yr old has a clean slate with them.
With Lee/Eberle/Nelson all scheduled to become ufas next July 1st,Isles have zero incentive to sell low on JHS.
