Edit; while I think that is a stupid rule, it is a rule now.
The only reason (that I can see) for this rule is because of the (other) new rule about having to leave the ice if your helmet comes off.

I guess if they think it was “incidental” they don’t call it, or if it just pops off from contact because of a poorly tightened chin strap. But if you grab the helmet and take it off of a player, it’s a penalty. (LoL, even if it’s your own. Saw a game where two guys took their helmets off before fighting, both got an extra 2 for doing so)

The way Florida is playing has me even more confused by their game 1 effort.

They were off for a week, Boston had one day off coming off an emotional game seven win. It took them a game to get back into playoff mode.

He took a swipe at a goaltender. It didn’t connect. He might not have wanted it to connect but just took a swipe hoping to get the Bruins riled-up, which it did. God forbid the Bruins be allowed to defend their goaltender without getting penalized for it. What are they supposed to do? Stand around watching while guys take a swipe at their goaltender?

This is exactly the problem with the league: the refs and the league are incapable of policing matters and then when you try to police them yourself you get penalized for your trouble. NHLOL.

League will do nothing about it because it wasn't called a penalty on the ice and that would require them to publicly recognize that their refs f***ed it up
