A game like the last one — where all the glaring flaws finally show up on the score sheet — has the potential to be turned into a bigger positive. Provided they win: a positive that might not have happened if they eked out another questionable process victory. Though putting Voracek back on his PP half wall at least bore fruit.

But will they actualize these potential positives? Or will they shuffle chairs and try to return to their imagined blueprint of the previous games — while not correcting the major problems not self-contained to tonight? How can a playoff team, let alone the 1st seed, have 4 ES goals in 5 games? And how can that be the game plan? Our xGF/60 is only above the offensively inert Blue Jackets, and our xGA/60 (smothering defense and all) is only below the defensively nonexistent Blackhawks.

I don't think Muller's doing much. I think Vigneault is just barfing up a series.

Standing behind the bench and letting AV do some kind of barfy circular breathing to maintain a constant and uninterrupted barf cycle is a form of outsmarting. If your opponent is dead set on being incompetent, let them continue and take the gifts they give you.

Giroux needs to go back to Couts, he's a cipher elsewhere.
This shouldn't be a surprise, last two seasons 5x5:
G & C: CF 56.60%, xGF 55.69%
G w/o C: CF 48.15%, xGF 46.67%
C w/o G: CF 50.61%, xGF 50.70%

JVR - Hayes - Farabee? TK has been bad so drop him down to the third line.
Hell, go with Frost
Laughton - Frost - TK, they'll skate and probably score for both teams
Raffl - Grant - Pitlick
or
Raffl - Laughton - TK
Bunnaman - Grant - Pitlick

There's no easy answers playing without Lindblom, Patrick and NAK.

If JVR isn't hurt, I kind of do expect him back, but at the expense of Grant.

Splitting G and Couts is fine, if you give G someone capable of playing alongside him.

AV is clearly married to Thompson, but Grant...
I'll believe it when I see it. Grant played 15 minutes last night. PP and PK. Bunnaman only played 6 and no specials. Maybe Grant gets demoted but scratched entirely? Doubtful.

I cant believe we even have to have these conversations. Let's recap from 9 months ago:

If only things like playing 8 minutes a game mattered.
If only having (and playing) good depth could help you win
If only constructing your roster appropriately during the regular season to be prepared for the playoffs mattered.
If only spending cap on useful vets instead of ECHL slugs mattered
