So with Niagara seemingly falling off a cliff they're currently only one point above Kingston for 8th in the East - with 39 points on the season.

Kingston is currently on pace to finish with 47 points, Niagara with 48. Neither team can even reach 7th seed, and would finish dead last by a mile in the West. I'm curious to know if this will be one of the all-time worst 8 seeds in league history as these point totals seem super low.

Belleville - 46 pts in 2010-11 is the most recent I could find

Worst #OHL teams to make the playoffs since 2000:

'10/'11 Belleville: 46 points
'01/'02 North Bay: 49 points
'13/'14 Mississauga: 54 points
'15/'16 Saginaw: 55 points
'16/'17 Niagara: 56 points
'13/'14 Niagara: 57 points
'04/'05 Guelph: 57 points

Niagara in '13/'14 is the only one of those teams that didn't get swept, but they're also the only one who didn't finish 8th

To add a little context, remember Kingston was God Awful to start the year. The team that will finish 8th will most decidedly be better than their record by the time the playoffs start.

If Niagara does hold on, mostly because Kingston falls on its face, Niagara will be worse than its record.

Niagara has a much easier schedule with two games left against North Bay. But, you're bang on. Niagara is atrocious right now and only sit where they are because of Tynan, Thomas, Tomasino, Sopa and Lodnia.

Niagra is TANKING

Niagara had every intention of making the playoffs which is why they hung on to Thomas until the deadline. They would have moved Lodinia for less than a great offer if tanking. (see wolves’ Sokolov trade for a blatant example of tanking). Oshawa made it impossible for Niagara to hang on to Tomasino by offering a player, 6-2nds, 3rd, & 2-4ths. That value in picks may never be seen again with picks only being allowed to be traded 4 years away after the upcoming OHL draft.

Niagara is tanking. If they wanted to make the playoffs they wouldn't have moved Tomasino. They waited so long to move Thomas because they were hoping to get a 2003 born player and the first week in January is the only week you can do that, although they failed in doing that.

Also OHLInsiders said they had 2 deals done for Lodnia and he used his NTC both times because he wants to be out as soon as possible so he can go join the AHL

In hindsight they shouldve done both deals much earlier. Still can't believe the only player they got for Tomas AND Tomasino is Cam Butler. There's no way NIA isnt really really bad next year nad they dont have their first roudn pick, that's going to suckkkkk

Niagara will no doubt be terrible for another season or two.
But, I do believe the owner’s pre-season statement of the IceDogs making the playoffs if for no other reason than revenue. And, they traded Tomasino for an offer that could not possibly be refused; otherwise, they wait up to an entire year to get the best possible return. Getting 6-2nds, 3rd, 2-4ths for a player just before trading picks will be limited to four years is a massive haul; and, big win. Imo, the Tomasino deal was an outlier at the deadline cheap-stakes.

no 1st, but 2(2, 3, 4), 5, 2-6, ... Niagara will have a fine draft and feel no need to put resources into tanking since all the early picks are based on others standing
Oshawa though, could very well go consecutive drafts without any 2-5 picks. It will be interesting to see how quickly they recover from that.
