That’s a decent list. Arsenault is too high, I have him 30-40. Savoie’s recent play might make him the best forward in the draft, he’s a top 5 pick. MacCallum is good but too high. Lyons on Saint John will be a 5-6 rounder.

Every list is going to look slightly different I always find them interesting. Many of the players I agree with even if order isn’t exactly the same. Thanks for putting the list out there scoutman1.

My comments would that drew maddigan should be somewhere in the top 40. He’s been trending upwards since the half way point. Was impressive at ice jam. carruthers is likely top 10 still. Has most the tools you look for and good old fashioned size. Vidicek I would move to round 1. Cameron MacLean wasn’t listed. He’s a first round pick. Landon sim - glad to see him listed. I’m big on him and his size won’t hurt him imo. He plays right and doesn’t just work the perimeter. I agree with mcscout that savoie continues to impress. I like him in round 1.
Will be interesting to keep watching these 04s. Pretty deep group

You got Bishop and Kelechian pretty high. I don't see them in first 4 rounds.

I don't disagree much with the rest.

Lane Hinkley is ranked 120 in the OHL drat (prospect Pipeline), in the Q you have him at 21. Is the Q that much weaker?

A lot of times it depends on qualitative data, such as where the player is likely to play. You see players drop all the time when there's doubt they will play in the O or Q.

I would think that applies to Hinkley. As far as what league is better, take a look at the recent Mem cup winners. That should answer your question.

It was a bit of a rhetorical question, I don't see him very high in the Q. Is he likely to go the ncaa route?

23% of the NHL players this year have played in the OHL compared to 10% for the Q. The Memorial cup is about who stacked up the most before the trade deadline. The O has way more depth and is the most competitive league in the world. The WHL has 16% of their former players in the NHL.

That being said the OHL has a lot of Americans being drafted. The amount of players eligible to be drafted is 3:1 compared to the Q. Lane Hinkley was ranked higher last season. He should be drafted late second or third round in the Q.

There are some listed with little views, some not listed based on even fewer to no views. Hinkley is a good D man, has a higher perception based on going to the GTHL. Many expect he will end up in his home town of Moncton.

players like LaStarza and Rossi are good, but few views and playing 15 U and 16u in the US. Similar to Furlong. Being ranked where they are based on previous knowledge and point totals. With no account for playing with their own age group. The transition of playing 15 or 16u to 20 and under is giant. Prime example of a “record” in N.S. yesterday. Peddle with 80 points, next closest in team had 43. Only 5 points best on best at ACC in his age group. We need to watch the quality of the league. When your 6’ 170 playing against 5’3” 125’s, it does not show a true storey. Woodworth 4-5 points at ACC with best on best on best of 04’s. Then destroys the NSMMHL in points. Either these kids developed off the charts in a couple of months or the level is much different.

Maddigan, needs to be on the list and lots of views.

players with little to no views needs big to be on the list, Ramsay, Guy, MacLean, Casey. It will be interesting after Gatorade. There will be some sleepers in the draft.

From what I have seen in the N.S and surroundings , the hockey calibre is not as high as Midget AAA in Quebec, so some players have no business being in the top 10 , and the Quebec Calibre is not the same as the USA HOCKEY, we've seen what happen at he YOG, mind you not all the top players for Canada were present.

I can tell you there was 3 forwards missing and maybe 3 Ds and 1 goalie who should of been there.

@rolliethegoalie for me the obvious was Shane Wright and I assume wasn’t available and probably no benefit to him of going based on his OHL success.

I was concerned with Matt Savoie based on being knocked out during a game in December. Very bright future but did he rush back? He’s much much better than what I saw in those games. He has dominated any of those US players at previous events.

in my opinion there were a few from the west that would have been impact players but the way it’s set up doesn’t permit that qty. Singleton, Berdard, even being an 05, and Zimmer. All studs that can score.

there are many kids across the country that could have been interchanged through out the Canadian line up and we would not have been any better or worse at the event

Be curious to know what everybody's thoughts are on this years goaltenders. Hard to rank these guys as far as draft picks because it will be based largely on team needs but I see a lot of talented 04's. How do you think they match up?

What would be your rankings or predictions for draft? In Atlantic is the ACC the measuring stick? 2004’s played ACC in October 2018

@wayupnorth I don’t have enough access to the Quebec league, so that would be unfair to everyone. I have seen all Atlantic kids and most in the US and other parts of Canada. ACC is the only time the birth year plays against each other, province vs province in Atlantic. Ranking is tough based on some are stat watches, some look for skills to transfer to next level and some just repeat what they read elsewhere. Some play is stronger leagues some in weak leagues. It will come down to the team. You have guys “ranked” in third round and go in the first last year. Some ranked in 8th, go in 3rd. Our lists are just lists.

from what I’ve seen on my travels, remember non Que.

Forwards:
LaStarza (que in US)- good size, skates well, good hands. I would like to see in U18 vs 16u to help comparison.
Carruthers- has always been a big kid, skating has come a long way, heavy shot, likes to leave the D zone early.
Savoie- has grown, it’s helped him, great hands and vision, ok skater but makes it work.
Woodworth- I see him like a Brady Burns, skates ok, but can make plays and score for days.
Rozzi (Que in US)- good size, lanky, can score as good as anyone.
Guy (west)- great dynamic skater, great speed, sees passes others don’t, I see as a F similar to Drew Elliot but looks like he’s playing F and D?
Andrews- speed for days, needs to grow game beyond dump and chase.
MacLean- good size, skating is ok, sees the pass, good shot, good on the boards and I like his mean streak.
Arsenault- good size, shoot first, needs to see the ice better and get back quicker. Too much time looking for a turnover.
Canning - Good size, like to shoot, good shot,
Casey- good skater, good size, seems to be around things but not much seems to come from it.
Roy- big kid, ok skater, can use his size more to his advantage. We will see how long it takes to get to the Titan.
Oliver- nice scoring touch, only seems like he wants to score, has good speed but doesn’t use it very often.
Hughes-good size, already over 6 feet, lots of ice time on a weaker team.
Sim- as every knows smaller but it doesn’t hold him back. Gritty, works hard and can score at ease.
Gweon- great speed, he can cover lots of ice quickly, seems to get nocked down lots.

Rink eyes: I agree with your assessment of these players for the most part. Very insightful. comments. Especially appreciate your insight on Rossi and N. Casey as I have not seen them live yet this season.

Of the Fs you mention I think Lastarza, Woodworth, MacLean and Savoie are the most promising prospects because they have vision and awareness of what is developing around them - yes, they have developed skills too - but they have that intangible of seeing what is around them, and that can't be taught imo. They are also strong skaters. Maclean and woodworth you say are just ok skaters. I agree that (compared to savoie for example) their straight ahead north west speed is not as fast. But woodworth and Maclean (esp Maclean) are great on their edges. Maclean uses Mohawks effectively to protect the puck and brush off defenders. Woodworth and Maclean are different skaters than some of the other top forwards but I would still classify them as strong skaters

I wish I could see T. Guy this year- I liked him at NB Dev camp at end of summer. He was tenacious. Reminds me of Drew Elliot in that regard. That is a good comparison you make.

Just a comment on Lastarza. I saw him play with LSL midget AAA twice before he left for the US (some opponents were older obviously ) and I thought he was a dominant forward. Very smart, and sturdy on his feet , saw the ice well, never panicked with the puck in tough crowded areas so unless something has changed I wouldn’t be overly concerned that he would be ineffective with older players. But that’s just my opinion

I appreciate your comments on L Sim. I’ve liked him more every year and every month of this season. . I don’t see his development stalling any time soon. He could be a steal
