Mad Respect for both Landeskog and Forsberg for always holding their own

some guys weren't around for long but they are what they are

What about Patty Roy!?

But Koci, Bordelaue and maybe Zadorov should be on the list?

I seem to remember Nazarov being a far more frightening player for the opposition, because he was always willing to go a little over the edge. I was at a game in the mid-nineties when Matt Johnson boarded him, breaking his jaw in several places, if I remember correct. As he was being escorted off the ice for medical attention, he broke away from the refs, skated back to Johnson, and lit him up before the refs could pull them apart again. Hell, he got tossed from a game after he blatantly head-butted one of the Winnipeg Jets during a fight. The guy was dirty, and mean.

I honestly don't recall witnessing Shelly win a single fight in teal, up until the day before he was traded. The guy is a class act, through and through, but I took it as trading him at his peak value.

Then again, it could all just be chance of observation, or personal bias.
Nazarov was a punching bag, but he fought pretty much everyone multiple times. He wasn't afraid to stick up for his teammates. The headbutting incident on Quintal and the incident where he and Tucker ganged up on Daniel Lacroix stand out as his dirtiest moments.

Darcy Tucker

He was not really known as a fighter but when Sylvain Lefebvre fought Rob Brown that fight stood out for me, the fact the Brown was wearing a shield and Lefebvre was able to catch him on the chin the way he did was a fight I will never forget!

Habs, from the past 50 years, off the top of my head...
-John Ferguson (he was feared by the best of 'em, including Howe and he was a good hockey player)
-Chris Nilan (Knuckles could just go nuts and fight guys much taller and stronger than him)
-John Kordic (maybe the strongest physical specimen who ever played with the Habs)
-Georges Laraque (didn't play long for the Habs and didn't fight much but he didn't have to)
-Pierre Bouchard (built like a horse)
-Todd Ewen (RIP, big and scary)
-Mario Roberge (light weight but fearless)
-George Parros (at the end of his career so not so good but he could still fight with the best of 'em)
-Dave Manson (like Larry Robinson back in the days, didn't have to fight anymore as everybody else was scared of him; still one of the best)
-Donald Brashear (sad life story, sad career, kinda of a sad pugilist but could throw a punch here and there just on pure strength

I'd take Tucker off, he was spaz when he fought, but off the top of my head, I'd put someone Todd Gill in there, maybe even Basil McRae. Guys like Jim Korn, Rick Vaive and Wilf Paiement could throw 'em good too. For comic relief lets throw in a Paul Higgins.

Barry Beck didn't get in a lot of fights....but he'd probably whip half the guys on that list. I remember Harris beating up a Flyer while on his back....can't remember who that was for Philly, maybe Dornhoefer

Playfair and everyone one else.....guy was a beast.
Guy benched something crazy like 440 lbs. Now with long arms like Larry had, that is even more impressive.

I had a friend who worked at Recreational Warehouse, where Larry purchased a cast iron stove. Larry got tired of the slowness with which my friend and a co-worker (neither small guys) were handling the loading onto Larry's truck. He told them to put it down. He then proceeded to pick it up by himself, carry it, and put it on the back of his truck.

Beast indeed!:thumbu:

From the top of my head and in no order for Pittsburgh:

  • Eric Godard
  • Deryk Engelland
  • Marty McSorley
  • Bob “Battleship” Kelly
  • Francis Leroux
  • Ryan Reaves
  • Jamie Oleksiak
  • Eric Cairns
  • Alek Stojanov
  • Terry Ruskowski
Could have added Steve MacIntyre, but he never actually fought in Pittsburgh. Jim McKenzie didn’t take his role seriously while in Pittsburgh as well. Maybe Tocchet deserves a spot? Eric Cairns was certainly past his prime.

Pittsburgh has an impressive list of alumnus when it comes to punching bags/mediocre fighters:

  • Jay Caufield
  • Craig Adams
  • Steve Webb
  • Troy Loney
  • Steve McKenna
  • Tom Kostopoulos
  • Gary Rissling
  • Dan Focht
  • Bobby Farnham
  • Dave Roche
  • Tyler Wright
  • Matt Barnaby
  • Kelly Buchberger
  • Matt Bradley
  • Richard Zemlak

I liked Asham and Laraque.
