They didn't give up on him. They found a better fit in Nick Schmaltz. I think both teams would do the trade again.

I think Colliton has said he likes 2 dmen on PP2 because when the PP ends they don't want to get caught on the ice with 4F1D in 5v5. Also Gus cannot defend a rush solo.

Edited to add that thing about Gus is my take, not something Colliton has said on the record.
