Just finished watching the Blues and Flames. Tough game for the Blues. I came away struck by two different players in Dunn and Parayko. I thought that Dunn looked like the Blues best defender and Parayko looked terrible. I've only watched 3 or 4 Blues games this year though. Is this a trend or is it only the games I've watched? Which player has more value to Blues fans?

ya, Parayko holds too much value for how he is playing this year.

honestly, if he keeps this terrible pace he won't be a first pairing D man.
I'm really really not high anymore on Parayko after this year, Dunn and Edmundson are better in my book.

Every Blue is terrible this year and people should just stop trying to do trades with us. No need to pity trade our trash. :sarcasm:

I'd have a lot of interest in Dunn personally. Loved his game last night and each time I've watched him. I'd stay far, far away from Parayko and Tarasenko.

This season, you can't judge this team by a couple games, it just varies so much.

Dunn is like a worse version of Shattenkirk that can skate better.

Parayko was our best player in a big win against Colorado in the game before. This season is just a throw away.

Really? I thought he looked good defensively too. But yes, he can fly.

Our D has been decimated with injuries and both are the only ones not affected. This was the strength of the team last year.

Dunn is only 22 and LD. Parayko is 25 and RD. Both are considered core players. Both skate and shoot well, need to improve in the d area. Really doubt if either is moveable.

Bouwmeister and Gunnerson are UFAs next year and primarably LDs. Edmondson is LD and RFA so not much wiggle room.

Bouwmeister is skating better after offseason hip surgery with NTC, so he's a candidate for rental. He was real iffy at the start of season. Can play lots of minutes and PK. Can move the puck when he has to. If he returns to form, take a 1st or 2nd, maybe + at deadline.

He's very aggressive like Shatty, so he's either great or gets burned.
I've only seen a few Blues games this year, so small sample size and all that. I wonder if he'd do better in a different system with a different coach then. His physical tools are impressive. Of course to were Phaneuf's as a young guy.

I'd be shocked if you got a 1st for JBo. We moved him to you guys 6 years ago when he was much better for a late first and two C level prospects.

I'm probably one of the biggest Dunn fans around here and Parayko is still noticeably better right now. All of the puck flubs you saw in that game from Parayko are mistakes Dunn has been making all year. Almost everyone on the Blues looked terrible in that game. THAT is the trend. Inconsistency. O'Reilly is the only player who has been consistently good.

It wouldn't surprise me if Dunn became a higher impact player eventually (or just by the time he's Parayko's age), but right now, Parayko makes fewer mistakes, covers more ice, and can handle multiple guys in the corners and make a clean exit in impressive fashion. Dunn's breakouts and offense are both better, but not by a tremendous amount right now.

I think Parayko has more trade value - but, strangely, that might make Dunn less movable simply because there's little chance the Blues get a return for him that would make it worth their while. I can reasonably imagine Parayko returning a package that includes a good young defenseman and another significant piece, but Dunn would probably have to be part of a package that returns an upgrade defenseman for moving him to make sense.

Funny because I think Dunn’s been mistake prone and not as good as he was last year as a rookie. Could just be some sophomore hiccups. Still really talented.

I don’t think there’s a shadow of a doubt that Parayko is a more impressive package and top line defender right now with much higher value. Now that may also make him the better and more likely trade chip as I don’t think Dunn is established enough to return a huge haul. Plus Dunn is cheap and younger so no real reason for the Blues to move him.

Did not say he's worth that but at the trade deadline everyone is looking for D and usually has to pay up if they are in contention.

Would something like this be of interest to Blues fans?

To CGY: Dunn, 2019 2nd, 2020 2nd, Mikkola

To StL: Hanifin, 2020 3rd.

We're probably moving on from Bou/Gunnar for cap space/age and Dunn/Mikkola are the up and comers.
I don't think Mikkola is ever going to be an NHLer. He certainly doesn't project to be at this point. You could take him out of the deal if you want, I just know the Blues only have 2 contract spaces left.

The last thing the Blues should be doing is moving Dunn or their own picks. Can I interest you in a used Bouwmeester perhaps?

Everyone has players they'd like to move. We'd love to dump a couple of guys as well. Could I interest you in Neal? Only 5.75 for 5 more years....sigh.
