Backlund already had the puck, he did the smart play and played the man, not the puck, which could've resulted in Backlund getting past him and having a free run on an empty net.

It was the right play at the right time.

Not the way I saw it they were down 2 zip with any empty net.

Dumba needs to make a play to get the puck back at that point.

Dirty just because the game circumstance, and he does leave his feet before the hit.
Really this shouldn't have happened. This game should have been over with either:
A) Backlund being tripped with an open net.
B) Monahan just scoring instead of passing off the Noah.
His feet never left the ice before the hit so clean.

It was at the very least borderline otherwise it doesn't get a thread here or talked about the next day by the media or clarified by the NHL that he won't be getting any discipline for it.

In the last minute of a game his team is being shutout in. Even a minor hockey team would take exception to that. Dumba is gutless coward.
Using "It got a thread here" as something to backup your argument isn't the strongest point.

Gutless coward? That would be lomberg punching a guy in the back of the head when he's on the ground.

He got the puck and a pp for his team trying to come back, how was it not the right play all around?

Go look back at the clock 2 men down empty net he went for the easy highlife hit and took himself out of the play.

Clear as day.

People like you are ruining hockey.

Those who have this opinion generally fit two criteria:

1) They never played the game at any competitive level

AND

2) They skipped physics class in high school

Hopefully this doesn't get edited or deleted. People with this guy's viewpoint are literally ruining the game by over correcting a problem.
Or they have the players' welfare at heart and are not stuck in the past.

The dinosaurs went extinct, so should head shots and those who think they're clean.

Down 2 with near a minute to play. Come backs of that magnitude happens every season. Especially when you have a pp to assist, which they had because the Flames lost their cool, as always happens in the NHL with clean open ice hits these days.

Dumba tries to play the puck instead of the man, Backlund gets past him easy, suddenly it's down 3 and the game is realistically over... that's why you are taught since peewees, play the puck carrier, not the puck.

Seriously though I don’t think they’ve actually said yet. My guess would be he hurt his hand fighting Tkachuk, although it’s hard to see how. Neither guy really landed any big shots.
