What would be enough?

Maatta+sprong+1st?

Jesus.... **** no. A) cap wise that doesn't work. Pit would still need to shed another 2m in salary. B) that's an insane amount to give up for someone with 2.5 years left on their contract and our prospect cupboard is pretty empty. C) There's no way COL would accept that.

Not even close. Penguins are terrible trade partners for the Avs.

Agreed. That and it makes zero sense for PIT. PIT has a PPG winger with Malkin and a winger who's on pace for 60+ points with Crosby. Not to mention the hole that would create on the blueline.

Tbj, could you please stop with the crappy trades for PIT? Pretty please?

A) 2.5 years is a long time.
B) That's a terrible offer value wise for Duchene

Yes, but a team like Pitt that has a significant amount of their core locked up through '21-22. At some point you simply hit a wall in regards to the amount of high cap, high term contracts that you can reasonably afford without it significantly affecting your ability to sign quality depth. The more of these contracts you add, the less fluid you are as well; you become dependent on finding ideal trading partners and deals to significantly change the makeup of your roster.

Also, the poster you quoted already acknowledged that it isn't an offer that Colorado would accept.

That, and the odds of PIT being able to keep him past that contract is slim - which just adds to A) how expensive it is and B) how obvious it is that PIT of all teams shouldn't be gutting their prospect pool.

Value wise it's probably close to what they'll receive if they trade him, but I understand COL fans not liking it.

A. Penguins don't have the assets for him
B. Penguins don't need him
C. Avs have no interest in trading him

There, that solves the issues on both sides.

honestly pens top6 is good has it is. no need to add salary cap, they will most likely be using the current top6 core and fill it with ELC players till Crosby, Malkin, Kessel etc retires

Really no need to make any big moves with the Penguins current forward core. Maybe an upgrade at LW3, but he plays in Wilkes-Barre sadly. Rather see the Penguins trade for defense, especially right now
