Montreal has no reason to move on from Drouin especially for an older player not playing very well on a bigger conract.

However, if Montreal was looking to get Saad on a downswing, and essentially recoup some assets by swapping him with someone else so Chicago can take another run at the playoffs with an aging core,

How much could Montreal get in return doing something like Petry for Saad? Obviously it's not a trade that makes sense today, but what about later in the season if Weber is back, and if Chicago still looks competitive?

Montreal could get some very good assets now, plus maybe help Saad rebound enough to get additional assets for him later when he has less term, or maybe even retain some to facilitate a trade?

It would be at the very least and interesting and creative way to get more assets in a deal (similar to what they did to get Armia, or with getting Tatar out of Vegas).

This is pretty terrible for Montreal. And don't really see Montreal moving Drouin period, let alone for Saad.

Habs don't lose that trade badly enough to make sense for them to do it. I imagine they add to keep it on par with the rest of the trades they make.

Bergevin sucks, but Montreal has clearly won several of his trades.

yikes - what happend to these two budding superstars?

Surprising how the both of these two have fallen off the production wagon.... They were both pegged as a franchise cornerstones at one point.

Saad for Lucic + 2nd(cond)/3rd + 2nd(cond)/3rd

If Chi makes the playoffs this year or next year they get a 2nd in that year but only one.

If Lucic gets over 50 points Chicago gets another 2nd

These conditions are backwards. Chicago wouldn't be rewarded for making the playoffs or having lucic score more.

LW is the one position the Habs really don't need any more depth

Drouin, Byron, Domi, Lehkonen, Tatar are all top 6 left wingers --- Domi has been playing C, and Lehks/Byron can play the right side so its' been fine.

Petry being moved would need to be for a young RW; it's the only position we're actually thin (Gallagher/Armia)

Obviously defensively we need some young guys, but I am sure that's the next several draft picks unless we get that #1 this year for Hughes.

Danault, Kotkaniemi, Suzuki, Poehling --- our C depth is young and full of promise
