If all three players are 100% healthy and considering what they have accomplished at the NHL level, would you rather have Drew Doughty and Erik Karlsson on your team or would you rather just have Alex Pietrangelo?

In terms of their contracts Doughty has 7 years and $11 million remaining on his contract and Karlsson has 7 years and $11.5 remaining on his contract.

Pietrangelo just signed with Vegas for 7 years and $8.8 million, so depending on a teams salary cap he would fit better based on that.

lock her up, no matter how much you think Drew or EK will rebound no one right now is committing 22.5M in cap space to two D rather than 8.8M to one.

I don't agree. if Karlsson and Doughty are playing at the top of their games that's 50 minutes of having your ass covered. Easily worth 20 mill when you have contracts like 9 mill for Jeffrey Skinner.

If Thomas Chabot were to phase out of existence tomorrow I'd roll the dice on the Doughty/Karlsson pair. Sens actually have the cheap prospects to fill out a defense corps under 30 million for the next 5 years as long as we trade out the defense partners every time they ask for a raise (which Melnyk would probably do anyways). It would be like Anaheim 2007 except with a lot of prospects. I'm sure Doughty and Karlsson can make passable pairings out of some combination of Christian Wolanin, Jacob Bernard Docker, Lassi Thomson, Max Lajoie, Christian Jaros, Jake Sanderson, Tyler Kleven, and Max Guenette.

Drew Doughty is a boat anchor. That doesn't make this a fair comparison.

I mean who would the #2 be? If the #2 is any top-pairing caliber guy at a reasonable price, then I go with Petro and that guy.

So Erik Karlsson + the worst contract in the league or Pietrangelo? The fact that this poll is close is odd to say the least.

Probably just Pietrangelo as there are diminishing returns on having two players trying to occupy the same role, at ~2.5 times the price, no less.

Not worth banking on Doughty to rebound, though if he did, he and Karlsson would be the right answer

Is Doughty's contract really worse than Karlsson's? Between both of them Doughty has managed to stay healthy playing 82 games a season from 2014-15 to 2018-19. Karlsson has not played 82 games since the 2015-16 season.

Plus Karlsson technically makes more money at $11.5 million compared to $11 million for Doughty.

Erik Karlsson has been an above-average player for the last two seasons, despite missing a lot of games.

Drew Doughty has been an anchor for those two seasons.

Yes, Doughty's contract is worse than Karlsson's.

Describe anchor, please? Doughty outscored Pietrangelo in 2018-19 despite a historically bad Kings team, has been consistently injury-free his entire career, leads the league in time on ice, plays in all situations, and is a noted clutch performer. Doughty and Karlsson are both still world class hockey players.

"Considering what they have done at the NHL level" makes it seem like you get them for their whole careers so in that case I chose DD/EK.

Since Karlsson only played in 53 games for the Sharks in the 2018-19 season because of various injuries, it would have been a good reason for Doug Wilson not to re-sign him. I know he had good numbers for them in the 2019 playoffs, however I wonder if in hindsight he regrets re-signing him since he only played in 56 games during the 2019-20 season.

Up until this past season Doughty had played in 82 games since the 2014-15 season.

To take it a step further, Doughty has played in 919 of a possible 938 regular season games for LA in his career. That's right – he's missed a total of 19 games through his entire career. He's missed only 7 games since the 2012 lockout.

wth give me Doughty and Karlsson any day of the week. Doughty although an annoying trash talker, literally annoying as hell, he is one hell of a dman, and Karlsson with the extended break apparently actually 100% healthy. give me those 2 any day.

Assuming healthy, you kind of have to take Doughty/Karlsson.

Just give Doughty the defensive deployment and Karlsson the offensive deployment and your PP1/2 QBs are taken care of as well as any key situation in the game. Need a lead or a stop, both guys are out. That would be insane. It's the pseudo Neidermeyer/Pronger deal. What's not to love? Based on the criteria in the OP, 100% health, the first two guys would be at worst 1-2m overpaid, but can play the whole game. Pretty easy to fill out a roster.

Right now I think Pietro is significantly better than both and he doesnt have an anchor for a contract
