Close one, not really sure. I am leaning towards Matthews scoring more goals but it could go either way.

As goal scorers they are pretty even, however Draisaitl is a proven 50 goal scorer. Matthews hasn't reached that level yet, but he should score 50 one day also. Where Draisaitl has a big advantage over Matthews is playmaking. Draisaitl has always been a superior distributor of the puck. Draisaitl is putting a 2nd year in a row that he is better than Matthews. He's much more complete when you add in the playmaking ability.

When you take into account Draisaitl's contract is better, and as a more complete player. Just concentrating on goals does not give the whole picture.

Both will be close in goals but Drai will probably end up with double the assist

Probably Matthews, but it should be close. Matthews is a better natural scorer, but Draisaitl has the best playmaker beside him to make up the small gap in scoring ability.

Last season Draisaitl had 0.07 more GPG.
Their sh% was M = 14.7%, D = 21.6%.

Season before Matthews had 0.23 more GPG
Their sh% was M = 18.2%, D = 12.9%.

Season before Matthews had 0.14 more GPG
Their sh% was M = 14.3%, D = 16.9%.

Since Matthews entered the league Matthews had 0.10 more GPG
Their sh% was M = 15.7%, D = 17.4%

So far this season Matthews is 0.20 GPG higher.
Their sh% was M = 20.7%, D = 18.2%.
Too small of a sample size to make a concrete conclusion.

I don't see how people argue that this is Draisaitl. The one season Draisaitl beat Matthews he had an insanely high sh%

I am also in the camp that the younger player has more room to grow.

This isn't taking anything away from Draisaitl, he is a great player, I just don't think he is a better goal scorer than Matthews.

Draisaitl is better at goal scoring, playmaking, points, hockey, defense, durability ect. Not even a question anymore until Matthews finds another gear and proves otherwise with his point total and ability to stay injury free for a change. And he has a distinct advantage in an overall better team to accomplish this from.

As an Oilers fan, for pure goal scoring purposes, I voted Matthews. Despite his 50 goals last year, Drai is usually a pass first player.

If Matthews plays all 82 games he will score more. I voted him but you do need to be wary of his injury history.

This is close but I see an advantage for Matthews. He's simply a goalscorer. Points will likely be the other way around.

Matthews always starts fast and tapers off. He's also injury-prone. He also has never come even close to 50. Oilers are much better coached than they were last season, and look better than ever.

Draisaitl should logically be the clear favorite.
Matthew's is a better pure goal scorer. Draisaitl the better all around player
Guess scoring 50 goals doesn't make one a decent goal-scorer.
