Yes very fragile.

McDavid must be fragile as well considering he had a shoulder/collarbone injury as result of a hit.

Draisaitl is very good. No need to make ridiculous comments.
Difference is McDavid still puts up massive numbers (3 100+ point seasons)
Matthews has just barely passed the 70 point mark and is about to be getting paid 11.634M. Very concerning.

We're very concerned as we enter into the playoffs for a third straight season with Matthews on the team.

Debate and conversation are fun and healthy and are the point of this forum. Please don't act like a 13 year old because you were offended because someone compared your player to a player on another team.
concerned you're putting all of that money into a guy who misses significant time. Oilers had the same issue with Hall. Great when hes there but had many seasons where hes only playing 60 games

oiler fans make sure the whole world knows that mcdavid is on a completely different tier than matthews (fair assessment).

but then they try and justify that draisaitl playing wing for the best player on the planet is somehow comparable to matthews playing with hyman lol

mcdavid should be playing with scrubs similar to hyman. but he has to carry two expensive wingers because they can't center their own lines. If the Oilers could run McDavid/Drai/RNH down the middle they would be cup contenders yet they can't even make the playoffs because the whole team is basically overpaid.

i know matthews is pretty overrated but this isn't even a comparison. put matthews on mcdavid's wing and draisaitl centering hyman and all the stat examiners would change their opinions instantly.

Poor Zach Hyman. The kid gets blamed for everything wrong with the Leafs.

Funniest part is he doesn't even play with Matthews this year, yet is being brought up in a thread comparing the production of Matthews and Draisaitl this season.

Fact is, Drai’s numbers away from McDavid, a generational superstar, just aren’t good enough for me to say he’s better than Matthews.

It means he might have been closer to a finished product. He wasn't an 18 year old who was going to add 20-40 pounds in muscle between the ages of 18 and 23.
Except...he’s still playing against other grown men. Are you under the impression that being 6’3 and 215 lbs is a primary contributing factor in being a 40 goal scorer in the NHL?

It could explain why he was better at a younger age than 18 year olds who walk into the league as twigs and need a few years to put on the necessary muscle to reach their full potential.

You can debate who is the better player, it's very close, but with Draisaitl out producing him a very narrow edge goes to him. But you CANNOT debate which is the better contract, that's not close at all. Draisaitl @ 8.5M should be a land slide victory if not for the blind loyalty and largeness of the Leafs fanbase here.

If only other 18 year olds were his only competition and he were the only 6’3, 200+ pound 18 year old in NHL history. Alas, neither is the case, and your attempts at minimizing his outperforming the vast majority of the league are laughable.

Hall the MVP of the league last year?

I'd hate to pay a guy like that. McDavid is probably happy to see him gone.
There's no denying Hall's skill and at 6M you can live with the injuries (although I'm sure NJ didn't enjoy only getting 30 games out of him this year. There's a pretty big difference between 11.5 and 6M though.

Just imagine how leafs fans would react if Oilers fans told them that a guy with 10 less goals, and 29 less points was better than their guy. 41 point player X > Matthews because Matthews has 1 better linemate. Even though player X plays on a stacked offensive team.

The outrage would be unfathomable.

They might ask you what good it does if you aren't playing on stacked offensive lines? Or they might ask you why if someone is so talented that they don't split them up and make themselves much less easy to beat? I suppose it's because they see the value in losing?

Just imagine if Matthews could actually match Leon's actual goals and points totals and if he made 8.5 not 11.634 hypothetically? This poll would not be even close.

That, or Drai > Matthews by a decent margin

Although Matthews has naturally improved his stats this year. He hasn't been able to find a consistent winger the whole year. Maybe he needed Hyman a bit more then we all thought.
