So somebody made a thread about Winnipeg not having 1st round busts and it lead me to this poll

Would you take Jets draft picks or players selected in the +1 slot.

    2011 Entry81Zibanejad
    2012 Entry81Derrick Pouliot
    2013 Entry121Max Domi
    2014 Entry81William Nylander
    2015 Entry161Mathew Barzal
    2015 Entry241Travis Konecny
    2016 Entry11Auston Matthews
    2016 Entry171Dante Fabbro
    2017 Entry231Pierre-Olivier Joseph
Personally at this time value-wise I would rank it:
    Matthews > Scheifele > Barzal > Laine > Ehlers >= Nylander > Trouba > Connor >= Konecny/Morrissey > Zibanejad > Vesalainen > Domi > Roslovic > Fabbro/Joseph > Stanley/Pouliot

Which means the Jets are doing just as well with a -1 pick handicap. But then there are teams like Anaheim that (imo best drafting team) are picking gems while surrounding picks are an absolute wasteland.

Why did you say the jets +1 slot then do every pick as the jets -1 slot except conveniently couturier ?

Why would you even compare to the pick before when the jets would have no chance at those guys ?

Confusing formatting, but i think i'd go with the Jets group tbh. The only ones where i wouldn't, are Barzal > Connor, Matthews > Laine, and Fabbro > Stanley. And with Laine over Matthews, you're losing out on that added value of a Center, but it's not that big of a deficit...Laine is also great. So it's basically Barzal over another good player in Connor...vs the better players pretty much everywhere else, by a huge margin in at least a few cases.

Im confused at this thread, but Morrissey and Trouba are ahead of Ehlers and Connor for me

After the first one, you did -1 instead of +1.

How can the Jets draft Barzal if he's already taken? I'm not sure for which way you are going for, but it makes no sense.

Scheifele went 7th overall and Zib went 8th overall. So that means the Jets had a choice between these two and too Scheifele.

    But then for the rest:

Trouba went 9th overall and Pouliot went 8th overall. So that means the Jets did NOT have a choice between these two.

What the hell? This poll makes zero sense.

What does it matter how the player picked before Jets does? Jets never had the chance to pick that player.

You're supposed to compare to the player picked AFTER the Jets.

I think his point is to show that Winnipeg is good at drafting by comparing the players who went higher

    But that makes no sense?

Maybe Jets would have picked the very same player had they been available.

Zibby went 6th, just one spot ahead of Scheifele. Like all the rest of the players being compared in this poll.

OP just didn't put the correct draft number beside him in this confusing fustercluck of formatting.

Yeah. I don't think this part of the poll is confusing at all. It's really just a question of how unusually good/lucky the Jets drafting has been over this span...to where it's honestly hard not to take their haul, even over the collection of players selected one pick ahead of their actual picks. ie. The Jets have done more with 1 pick worse, than the teams ahead of them have collectively done with that pick just ahead of them. In the 1st round.
