54- Marat Kusnutdinov, C
58- Lukas Reichel, LW
63- Jan Bednar, G

Simulated the lottery and Detroit won. Nashville picked second and New Jersey got #3.

1.) Quinton Byfield
23.) Seth Jarvis
Traded with Edmonton (32,54 and 125 for 23 and 85)
58.) Lucas Reichel (really doubt this happens that deep, undervalued on this site in my opinion...)
63.) Marat Khusnutdinov
85.) Jack Finley
116.) Joni Jurmo
156.) Amit Miftakov
187.) Alexander Nikishin

With how the board fell I didn't have many good defensive options or at least over the forward talent when I was selecting. Took a couple of long range European guys, would have to go heavier on D-man in 2021 or hope they slot the right way while going BPA.

Ran the lottery and Detroit ended up winning with Anaheim picking 2nd and LA picking 3rd.

1. Alexis Lafreniere
32. William Wallinder
54. Marat Kusnutdinov
58. Daniil Gushchin
64. Connor McClennon
65. Joni Jurmo
116. Eamon Powell
125. Dmitri Ovchinnikov
156. Daniel Torgersson
187. Tristen Robins

Pretty Euro heavy draft and lots of guys that I think could have high end potential. This was fun

I traded to 18 and then realized I didn't have a clue about any of those mid-round types, so I just grabbed the highest LD on the board.

I traded our first for Ottawa's second plus a ton of their other picks; then I traded that second to Ottawa for their third, plus just about all their remaining picks.

Then I traded 18th overall and a bunch of second rounders to LA for their 4th, and picked Stutzle and Drysdale at 3 and 4. Plus I got a few promising mid-rounders.

I kind of think that's not really going to happen. They need to tweak the algorithm that determines whether a trade would be accepted -- just going with total point value like that seems to over-value quantity over quality. I really don't think LA would give up that 4th for a very large number of mid-range picks.

I just missed out on Reichel -- I'll have to go in there and try to get that 58th or so pick that they had him going at, and make it a clean sweep of the players I most covet in this draft. If we could pick up Stutzle, Drysdale, and Reichel all in one year, I would have to see my doctor for an erection lasting the next 3 or 4 seasons.

MBH, thanks for this post -- this is going to keep me entertained for several days.

After running it a few times, I'm pretty sure I'd be a much worse GM than Kenny Holland ever was. Even with this simplified algorithm that makes trades so much easier, it's easy to see how complicated these decisions can become. I'd hate to wager my career on these guesses about what these 18 year olds will be doing 4 or 5 years from now.

My last effort -- again, I traded the first overall for the third plus a ton of picks, then traded up to the 4th overall, and end up with:

3. Tim Stutzle, C/W
4. Jamie Drysdale, RD
49. Lukas Reichel, LW/RW
50. Thomas Bordeleau, C
53. Pavel Novak, RW
95. Jack Finley, C

Then my master plan is to start none of these guys on the big club -- maybe Stutzle and Drysdale get their introductory 9 games late in the year -- and we'll once again stink-on-ice, and maybe we'll be lucky enough to draft a left-handed defenseman in the top 3 in 2021. That gives us time to burn another year from the deadwood contracts, and maybe in summer 2021 we can pick up a goalie free agent, and boom, we're back in the playoffs in the 2021-2022 season.

I just hope we don't end up playing Ottawa in the first round, those guys are going to be pretty good after drafting both Lefreniere and Byfield.

What's your sense that Mysak will be available at 32? I'd be really happy to have him fall to 32, but I assumed he'd be gone by then.

I wanted to see what we could get if we kept the #1 and Lefreniere, but then traded almost all of our later picks to get another crack at the first round, and sacrifice quantity for quality -- after many silly trades that could never really happen:

1. Lafreniere, LW
17. Jack Quinn, RW
58. Lukas Reichel, LW/RW
156. Garin Bjorklund, G

It’s literally what I got while using the app this thread is based on.

I have run it several times, Mysak is almost always available. I haven't even bothered with trades, but really don't think the draft turns out like this. Reichel is always there in the 50's and I'm pretty sure Mysak goes in the first.
Still it's super fun. Thinks for link

That would be spectacular for DET if they got Mysak in the second, he's currently 13th on my board, which is higher than basically everyone, but still, as you say he'll almost certainly go in the first (I also think Reichel is probably gone by 32, almost certainly 54, but I could maybe see him falling)
