The thing I remember most when it comes to bad stuff, is him shying away from a hit in the Washington game, giving up the puck, and it costing us a goal.

I think the way to deal with him is forechek him with big hits. Sure he's gonna burn you on occasion.

Playoff Dougie was never as good as regular season Dougie.

The argument was never who was better Cole or Hamilton. Certainly not that only the playoffs are the only big moments. Speaking on Mr 31 game Hamilton, you take out the 6 points in the 7 games with Washington and you are looking at 24 games and 8 points. Not a huge contribution from your 1RD, one big series and then meh 4 other series.
My original point was that Cole shouldn't be talking shit especially regarding production in big moments, because hamilton is better than he was.

Yeah, I don't think it's out of line to say that Hamilton had a bad habit of giving less-than-stellar performances in the playoffs. And it's not out of line to say that we hope TDA doesn't follow suit.

Granted, Hamilton isn't the only player that disappointed in the playoffs last year (Svech is another big name that we needed more from), but since the discussion was about Hamilton, there you go.

While everything seemed honky dory to us here on the outside looking in, the Canes were the 3rd team to move on from Dougie. Maybe there is something there that you only know if you are in the in crowd.
It's that soulless aura of him making people uncomfortable near him.

I wouldn't say the Canes 'moved on' from him. He chose to leave them for a career-defining bonanza contract. There's a big difference between that and getting traded.

Nah. Worst case is Aho or TT could do it, but I highly doubt it will come to that. Or you hang onto Gardiner.

As you said, the comment was over the top.
Maybe but on paper is meh outside Slavin and Pesce. Big downgrade on what we have in past few seasons. I don't think is anywhere close to the Bruins, Tampa, Vegas or Avs.

Bear was terrible in Oilers. Cole is third pairing guy. AdA is question.

We moved on because of money. I mean....really? After all we’ve seen from this team with Dougie it’s not about money and a character flaw?

We just signed Effing TDA.

So everyone* performs above paygrade for us.
Not really sure what's happening to be honest. Haven't really seen too many teams deconstruct their roster to such a degree that didn't face a learning curve situation for at least a few months while everyone acclimates.

It's odd..RBA's comments when the season ended is that he hoped to keep the team intact as it was in a good place. Then, he sort of changed his tune 10 days later. It reminds me of getting a new annual budget at work that you don't expect and you have to switch things around and reallocate.

When I heard his interview on xm after he changed his tune you knew there were changes coming. Now we know what that means. He said “we know we need to get better” though. I’m not convinced he would say this is better.

Other people have been talking about this so maybe it's just setting in more for me but the culture shift is getting noticeable and I'm not excited by that.

Going from a "we're all a family here" and we'll look out for you vibe to "you're a number, sign at the dottled line or cyas" isn't a good look. I understand hockey is a business but you can still conduct your business a certain way. I wonder if we're slowly eroding the good will as a franchise we built over all these years.

I guess it's possible the players are far enough from this that after negotiations are over so long as the head coach instills a strong culture things are good for the players but I'm starting to feel less optimistic about that.

I also wonder a bit about our long term success...we know how TD made his money...is there a similar way to apply that philosophy in the NHL? is that towards other GMs or just your own players?
A friend of mine left the Canes organization today. He was instrumental in building up the goodwill this franchise has in the community. I have a feeling he left because of these recent developments (and especially TDA)…I’m not positive, and I’ll never ask him…but I’d bet a lot of money on it.

Assuming we're talking about the same person, the announcement certainly did have the tone of "I'm being as classy about this as I possibly can but **** this ****". Whether related to public events or not, that's a matter of speculation.

nothing better than pure speculation to create a narrative. you dont at least have an anonymous source? That is an easy media play to 'add' legitimacy.
