Gilmour. Great all-round performer. Better defensively (almost Selke calibre), better leader and a brilliant aggitator. Oates was better offensively, but Gilmour's intangibles put him ahead. I'd take Gilmour at his best over Oates at his best as well.

Gilmour. A more apt comparison than the previous threads, thankfully, though.

Almost Selke calibre? Did you forget about 1993? ;)

Agreed with pretty much everything else that you stated though. Gilmour was one of the most dominant two-way players in league history, able to play at both ends of the rink with equal aplomb. He also had a tremendous peak and was arguably one of the three best players in the game between 1992 and 1994. His play in the post-season is also virtually unmatched, finishing in the top five in scoring on four separate occasions and he was leading in scoring in 1993 when the Leafs were knocked out in game seven by the Gretzky-led Los Angeles Kings. Few players did so much with such an unimpressive physical skillset. One of the best play-making centres in league history (not as good as Oates, but still a very formidable passer), who routinely elevated the play of those around him. Oates was phenomenal as well and was still winning assist titles at age 39 (in 2001-02). His longevity was excellent, but Gilmour was still putting up close to a PPG in the post-season at the same age. And as good as Oates was, his playoff numbers (as good as they are) just don't match up to Killer's. Dougie in a close call.

I reward oates for his consistent production, he was alot more relevant from 1995 to 2002 than Gilmour was.
