Kingston is off to a horrid start. The writing was on the wall.

Chances are he would have been terminated. He made a call to the Leafs, and Kingston is allowing him to step down rather than be fired.

All the community reps are is along with Sittler, Clark etc, he’ll appear at most events, do signings etc.

anyone thinking this is somehow connected on a whiteboard to Gilmour being in any sort of hockey ops role are just wearing tinfoil hats

This is certainly the most likely situation.

But fans being fans and Leaf fans being Leaf fans, it is not surprising to see some who are reading way too much into it.

No tin foil here. Just speculating.
Gilmour was on the path to coach the marlies years ago but was passed over in favour of Dallas Eakins. At that point gilmour left the organization and accepted the keys to the castle for his hometown Frontenacs. Now he leaves that position for some community rep job? Maybe there’s more to this.
Or maybe he’s actually just taking a community rep position....

The timing is rather suspicious, or completely coincidental, to bring in Gilmour into the Leafs org. Probably have some appearances and talk about the physical game to the players and coaches off the record.

Maybe hes the one guy that gets through to Dubas and Babs about the play from an outsider non threatening but respected way.

Seeing a legendary leaf might be good for morale especially for Marner and Matthews who will be the face of the franchise for the next half decade
Matthews: Doug Gilmour who?

Let me ask you this: in his body of work in the OHL, what makes him potentially qualified for a similar kind of role in the NHL? I am genuinely curious. I am feeling he was being pushed out from the Kingston role.
President was brought in with no prior experience. GM was brought in with no prior experience.
Why not a Coach? Seems like a trend here.

These takes are funny. You do realize the most management and coaches work their way up through the ranks from somewhere right?

Dubas has been a GM in some capacity for close to 10 years and Keefe has been coaching for 13 years.

The NHL is enough of an old boys club as it is, time for some new blood in the league.

Or... assuming a similar role. Sittler, Tucker and Joseph also occupy similar roles.

Likely correct.

They just mill around the platinum lounge and take photo's with the platinum season ticket holders.

If you are a long time holder, you get offers to have them join your for your dinner in the hot stove lounge.

Wendel had been doing that for 6 or so years I believe...but was told he has moved on from that role.

Sounds like it'll be Dougie now. Always felt awkward about bugging Mr Clark, but he didn't seem to mind...that's what they are getting paid to do.

Leaves Presidency of an OHL club to become a "community representative"?

This is either essentially Gilmour retiring from his career as a hockey executive, or it's some sort of temporary title before he moves into a real role of some sorts.
Keefe replacement?
