Leafs retain 40% on Marleau, they rise to meet cap floor and it only cost the Sens somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2m real dollarsIf they plan on buying him out they can’t wait that long. The buyout period ends before Marleau’s bonus gets paid.
Lol....Toronto structured that deal the way they did because it's the only way in a cap system that the can use their wealth as a tool. They don't care about paying actual cash up front, they did it because now Nylander's actual salary owed per year is sub 5 million. That makes that contract attractive to budget teams which adds value in a future trade.
I'm sure the idea would be for Ottawa to buy him out. Then he would sign for cheap in San Jose
Kyle Dubas is my best guess3-Way Trade:
To San Jose: Patrick Marleau, 32nd overall, 44th overall
To Toronto: Future considerations
To Ottawa: Kasperi Kapanen or Andreas Johnsson
Who says no?
am i wrong or buying him out is impossible
MmmmmmmmmmmPatrick Marleau, Kasperi Kapanen and Garret Sparks for Mike Condon, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Senators' third-round draft pick of 2019.
Yes, his cap is 6.962...but some teams concern themselves with actual cash as well, so after his bonus is paid on July 1st, his actual salary is not 6.962.I'm looking at his capfriendly profile. They lay it out as 6.962 million for the next 5 seasons. His cap hit is 6.962 for the next 5 seasons.
Don't kid yourself. A lot of people in the organization care about cash up front. They just don't burn money like you think.
How about more like giving up your 1st just to get rid of Marleau? How about more like Zaitsev, Marleau 50% retained for Ceci and late 2nd.
To sign our stars okHow about more like giving up your 1st just to get rid of Marleau?
And gaining a full 6.25 in cap space....ya.How about more like giving up your 1st just to get rid of Marleau?

Of course...it is what it is, it had to be done. That’s good, but it’s still a steep price to pay.
I'm not saying you didn't need to trade Marleau. I'm saying Leafs fans severely underestimated how much they'd have to give up to get rid of Marleau. And gaining a full 6.25 in cap space....ya.
Some...some fans.I'm not saying you didn't need to trade Marleau. I'm saying Leafs fans severely underestimated how much they'd have to give up to get rid of Marleau.
Ottawa does seem like a fit Zaitsev but do they have a Dman that’s cheaper to deal TO?
Including the person I quoted who wanted a 2nd rounder from Ottawa for the privilege of taking Zaitsev and Marleau.... Try to keep up.Some...some fans.
