Through 16-18 they had in total 207 pts. Even the first couple months of last season they were fine until Dumba and Koivu both suffered season ending injuries, add the Niederreiter for Rask trade and things went sour.

But at the end of the day, 19-20 team is not worse compared to those two seasons IMO.

    - Granlund and Niederreiter out, Zuccarello and Fiala in. Seems fairly lateral to me to be honest.

    - Coyle to Rask is a downgrade i give you that, but at the same time, can Rask be this bad forever? Eriksson Ek might also be ready to take over that 3C spot, dropping Rask to 4C.

    - Winnik/Fehr whoever played 4th line those years out, Hartman in, whatever

    - Same top 4 D and #1 goalie

    - Kunin, Greenway, Eriksson Ek, Donato.. bunch of young guys creating depth who by now have a lot more experience in their early 20's compared to previous years. I expect at least a couple of them to have good years and start figuring it out full-time. We've already seen flashes from pretty much everybody.

    - Wild had 106 pts in 16/17 with neither Staal or Koivu scoring more than 65 pts. They may be old, but both still have gas left in the tank. And Suter is still able to play a ton. So im not too worried about the vets being detrimental to team success yet. I mean, Parise just found his game again too.

    - The ol' chip on your shoulder thing after missing the playoffs, sparked by Guerin coming in.

    - Boudreau has made playoffs 10/12 out of his seasons in the NHL, Wild made the playoffs 6 years in a row before last season. Leadership or team culture should not be an issue, this team will compete and believe they can win.

So.. why is it that i see this team being literally voted bottom 5 in the entire league, in one HF poll?

I get the feel like its more about people once again thinking the Wild are boring, plus what have you done for me lately, rather than looking at what the team is capable of. I think it's a pretty good team from top to bottom, sure, once again no big stars up front but that didn't stop them before. They'll play a solid team game.

As long as they stay healthy i don't see any way how they don't finish above .500, and the line between 90 pts and 100 pts can be a very thin one, basically a good 2 week stretch vs bad 2 week stretch.

They will be in the mix once again, and are able to snatch a spot from underachieving team rated higher than them. But it feels like 95% of all people are already counting them out.

No one sleeps on the Wild. Everyone just sleeps when they watch their team face them. Cure for insomnia.

They didn't make the playoffs and i see no reason why they would make it this upcoming season. Staal, Koivu, Parise and Suter are just getting older and they didn't make aby remarkable acquisitions besides Zuccarello. I will sleep on them and I'll sleep tight.

After watching Dallas& Colorado upgrade their rosters I'm not feeling it for Minnesota in Central.

WC is a possibility with how Pacific looks.

Until the Wild hit it big and land an elite forward or two, they'll forever be that team that can make waves as a bubble team (and potential first round upset), but never be a team that can go four rounds deep and win it all.

Just having a good Gm/owner would be a nice start.

To be honest, watching their games resulted in some of the best naps I've ever taken. I'll continue to sleep on the Wild.

Agree. They should make the playoffs over Winnipeg easily.

Hockey's mostly random and arbitrary beyond a select few exceptional game-influencers per team, so it stands to reason they could possibly be good. They'd have a better chance of being good, by my estimation, if they had 2, but preferably 3, extremely good players. I like their uniforms a lot.

Only reason I’m giving them a shot in the Central is because BB is coach. Dude is legendary and I wouldn’t be shocked to see them get a wild card spot if they stay healthy.

I’ll be betting against them. They won’t be too horrible though I guess.

They were playing at a noticeably faster pace later in the season which made them a little more entertaining, I hope they keep that up. I'm not so sure their old guys hold up, plus that division looks to be relentless.

They're a much better team than most on here claim, they probably should have made the playoffs last season
