How UM failed for decades to heed warnings about doctor's alleged sex abuse

An accusation by a single victim this year inspired 800 others, mostly men, to come forward and unleash allegations of grotesque behavior. Among those accusations are new findings, details and complaints that several accusers say were largely ignored by university officials.

At least six people say they notified one or more university officials of his behavior, including storied names at UM — such as Schembechler and former Athletic Director Don Canham, along with several other coaches and two high-ranking UM administrators.

U-M, Anderson survivors reach $490M settlement

The University of Michigan has agreed to a $490 million settlement with more than 1,000 people who say they were sexually assaulted by a former sports doctor during his nearly four-decade career at the school, the university and those involved in the settlement announced Wednesday.

"The settlement is going to gloss things over so Michigan can go back to having a glossy block 'M' and look wonderful for the world, but the situation on campus is horrible," DeLuca said Wednesday in a telephone interview with The Associated Press

The deal came just after two men who say they were sexually assaulted by Anderson said they were hoping that a change in leadership with the weekend firing of university President Mark Schlissel would allow the school to be more accountable toward abuse victims.

Keith Moree and Robert Stone told reporters Tuesday that the Ann Arbor school is ripe for a culture change as its board conducts a search to permanently replace Schlissel, who was removed Saturday due to an alleged "inappropriate relationship with a university employee."

Sadly this kind of thing is more common than we want to believe. This is global in sports. At least one storied football club in Europe had their own scandal decades ago. Youth hockey, gymnastics, Penn State. Makes you wonder why there was so much effort to ignore and cover-up.

this is worse, the victims are between 1000-2000 and nobody is talking about it, remember when MSU go blasted by espn and molly "married to jalen rose" qerem called for death penalty because of nassar, you know the guy who wasn't associated with izzo or dantonio but they unfairly got thrown into the nassar scandal. where is this article talking about harbaugh who idolizes bo, they guy who knew, or brandstatter who victim shamed some of the players. oh yeah, and schlissel is embroiled in sexual harassment allegations too. it is really a testiment to the michigan media mafia, not sure how this isn't a bigger story, i mean bo's statue and building in his name is still up.
