Does Anyone Else Fear Silfverberg Will Become Our Kadri?

I don't understand the question.

Silfverberg has impressed me big time. Usually you get young players that don't play a 200 foot game but he's doing that already. He's also willing to block shots and goto the front of the net something Kadri didn't do much of his first season. Also seen him with a few takeways so far.

Why should we compare our second round pick to their first round pick though?

I'll use the last 25 games of the season to get a clearer picture of Silfverberg. Murray tried and failed getting Nash, so we're left with no one to put up with Spezza. As long as Silfverberg isn't losing the game for us, it's good enough for now.

What I like about Paul MacLean is that he plays his players. Turris started off slow last season, but MacLean gave him all the confidence in the world keeping him on the 2nd line, and putting him in situations where he'll grow and become better as a player. Silfverberg will be given all the chances in the world, and as long he continues to improve he'll stay on the top 6 and become a good NHLer.

Thing with Kadri, is if he doesn't produce, he gets sent down. That's how Toronto is ran as an organization because they're expected to win.

Kadri's problem was that he felt certain entitlements going in as a first rounder, took far too many shifts off and didn't play a two way game. While I'm sure many people were foolishly expecting Silfverberg to come in and dominate right away like he did in the Swedish league, he's so far played a solid, if unspectacular first few games. He's putting in the effort both ways nearly every shift, which is something it took Kadri four years to figure out.

He hasn't over impressed me with his offensive skills but then again he hasn't had felt comfortable in that setting. Along the same lines as someone said before "what did he do the first 10 AHL games...look now".

On the other hand his defensive play has been very good.

I am comparing expectations and not ability

expectations are a matter of opinion...and matters of opinion change person to person...therefore if your comparing expectations then this whole topic is pointless

kadri cost a 5th overall pick Silf was a 39th so that right there I dont see why your making the comparison

Kadri is averaging a point per game this season in other words for being on a crap team like the leafs he is in fact doing a decent job...so again what is the point of this topic?

and lastly Silf is a completely different style of player than Kadri...so again what is the point of this topic?


edit: if anything if you wanna compare prospects (which I still think would be stupid) Zibby would be a much closer than Silf (but again stupid to do)

Give him time. If anything, he looks like he's playing a bit too defensively (kinda like Turris did when he started w/ the sens). He'll find his balance.

Doesn't help that Turris didn't start passing the puck until the third period yesterday, either.

My only concern with 33 is his foot speed. He is a nice skater with a nice stride...but slow and very little explosiveness. The good news is this is one thing that can be corrected with hard work and expert trainers/coaches. What he has...you cannot teach or work on. When the puck is on his stick he has an all-star release. I think his speed being down my be alos due to him being tentative in his play. It is a lot to ask for a rookie with expectations and I think he is right now trying to stay in the lineup more than anything. I am hoping once he settles down he will relax out there and skate harder.

From watching his SEL highlights, most of his goals are wrist shots from medium range with lots of space around him. It's going to be difficult for him to score like that consistently in the NHL because of the smaller ice surface, (EDIT: ) and better goaltending.

He's going to have to learn to do everything with a lot less space around him. IMO if he can learn to get open in the high slot (either by stickhandling or getting open for passes) and shoot in/through traffic he'll be a star. If not he'll be a 2nd/3rd line player and PP specialist.

Great puck skills, responsible defensively, very good vision - 5 games into his NHL career.

Im very comfortable with what im seeing, he's going to be a very good player for us for a longtime.

You didn't watch him in the AHL, I'm assuming. Bingo's ice is smaller than Ottawa's as a matter of fact. In first 10 games he could really find any room to get his shot off and all but after that he was just nit-picking their defense like it was nothing. Shooting it at will from everywhere once he got the feel of the game and speed. I have no doubt that it's the case for him in this league too. Much more aggressive than he is used too but yesterday he handled the physical game MUCH better than previously.

I have no doubt he will bounce back. He was scoring at a 1.5 PPG pace before getting called up in his last 10 games.

He'll be a top 6 player, but will never be as good as many fans on here hyped him to be.

Very mediocre player besides his elite shot (which he needs to learn how to not get blocked) and defensive hockey sense.

The problem here is that we need to differentiate between Senators fans and HF Board Ultras.

We are the Ultras, we know that he has prime skill and could surpass Kadri.

On the other hand most sens only know he was good in Sweden but nothing else.

I am sure most are satisfied with the rookies play.

Hes been MUCH better than I had anticipated. I didnt buy the hype, but he looks like a veteran out there most of the time.

I dont think he will ever be an offensive star, but my hopes for him are much higher now than they were 2 weeks ago. Kid looks like he belongs almost every time he is on the ice.
