I want Scott Stevens "re-assigned" and replaced by Jacques Lemaire who can coach some friggin' "D".

Pete still has several more weeks-worth of rope before he hangs himself so for now, I don't want him fired.

Its not like the goal scoring is good so I'm kinda doubting how much the system works, the defense is bad and they had a terrible record since they had the hot start last year.

The only reservation I have is who they will hire in his place.

I want Stevens gone as well if he is indeed the one that coaches defense because the amount of breakdowns they have is unreal.

I think that if he had a better ASSISTANT coach who knows how to coach the Defense, the Devils might be in a better position than they are now.

Just saying....

I like....actually love the system he inserts....I just want him to get his head out of his ass when it comes to lineup choices

the system is grating on me. forecheck yes, but the dump and chase is just so stupid now. watching Brunner power up the the blue-line then just dump it in and go for a change, and watch as the puck comes back down towards our horrible defense. no. just no.

No. I like his system and think it can work well.

I want Lou to remove the dead weight from this lineup to force Deboer to play some younger guys. I'm tired of seeing a Volchenkov-Harrold pairing every night, or suffering through a Gionta PK...

No way.

Pete's system works. As has been mentioned in this thread already, the D is a major issue so far this year. Last nights game, the 3rd period of the Edmonton game, the Isles game, are all clear evidence of that. Our D is just too slow to play the kind of system we play, and really slower than any group of dmen should be in todays game, no matter what system. It's part of the reason Harrold plays every night and why I really don't have much of an issue with it right now. He's one of our only d-men that can move.

And although it may sound like excuses, you can't just focus solely on the record. Bottom line is we've been in every game so far except the first one. Pretty much any game after that one could have easily gone the Devils way. We'll also have played only 1 home game through the first 7 games of the year.

There may come a point where firing Pete is the equivalent of yanking the goalie even though none of the goals are his fault. But right now it would be way too premature.

First off I'd love to see how people's maths skills make them say things like we would be at .500 if we won yesterday.

We've played 5 games. to be above .500 we would have to be 3-1-1.
At 1-1-3 we are still below .500. It would of only been ONE win out of FIVE games.

Back on topic, I voted yes. This might be early in a normal length season, however the issue was evident during the lockout shortened season. The problem has been around for a long time, and if something isn't fixed very soon, we will have missed the playoffs 3 times in 4 years, and lose a very high pick for it too (when bad boy Lou should of given up the 29th pick in a heartbeat).

The team issues is placed solely on Lou and PDB right now, both are equally to blame.
Almost everyone is in agreeance that JJ, Lokti, Fayne and Larsson should be played every game, heck I'd even stretch that to Olesz too.
Lou's handling of Urbom and roster management prior to season beginning was also bad.

This team has lost so much over the last 2 years and it really is time that something is done.

All I can hope is the new owners are not going to take failure as the normal, and make changes when necessary, or have a strong say in the matter.

It's NHL .500...1-1-3 would be 5 points in 5 games (5/10 possible). Lame, but that's what it is. And no beating what should be a lowly Calgary team wouldn't have convinced me all was right in the world NHL .500 or not.

But that's a hypothetical that never happened either...and we're still stuck on nine regulation wins in 40 games.

Yes.

Since after about 25 or 30 games into his being the Devils coach.

Come on, he's better than that. Two OT games( one Fayne whiff and one Kovy cross bar away) away from a Cup. He's got a good system he just needs to exercise his resources better. He's too stubborn with the personal.

Free the youth. Larsson, Teddy, Josefson and Fayne should be playing.
Some of this is on Lou too. He should be making some moves.

You could play the what if game the other way too and say they were Zajac/Henrique OT winners from flaming out in the first round. If that had happened Pete would already have been gone before the end of last year IMO.

How is it premature? The Devils have 9 ROW in their last 41 games

I'm not sure that's really fair. Everyone admitted prior to this season starting that we were decimated with injuries last year and that was one of, if not the only, reason we weren't able to make the playoffs last season. So to sit here and add that on to what has occurred in this short season is bogus and short sighted in my opinion.

We're not getting blown out either as we've had a chance to win every single game this season minus the season opener. We need to chill for right now. Plus we're on one hell of a ****** road trip.

However, I'll be ready as much as anyone to blame Pete if he doesn't start to ice the best roster after we're back and things have settled a bit. But I just don't know who you would you hire even if nothing changes. Lou going back behind the bench would be temporary and wouldn't really solve anything.

I keep seeing people reference last year as some sort of further proof that Deboer should be fired too. Last years roster to start the season was boarderline putrid, then we lose Marty for a month, and then lose Kovalchuk for a month after Marty came back. This, all in a 3 month season. Not to mention we were using 4th liners and dmen during shootouts at times because our forward depth was so bad.

I'm not sure how much of last years issues were correctable by Deboer.

Lemaire isn't coming back unfortunately. He said it last time he only did it as a favor to Lou because things were so bad.

Pete, on the other hand... I like him. I just think he has tunnel vision. He's probably the best option for us ATM,
and Lou isn't going to do anything crazy yet. He will let things play out for now. But.. if you were Fayne, Josefson,
Larsson, Tedenby, even Urbom... would you want to play for this guy? Knowing what you're in for.. sitting over guys
that you feel you can outperform if given the chance?

He doesn't let them have a shot, and its disturbing because I know how much Lou mentions the young players.
If we want new ones coming in we're going to have to give them a shot and let them play. It's a crime we lost
Urbom for nothing when Harrold probably would have went unclaimed. Volch should be the 7th D at best.

I liked DeBoer, but his roster choices are so dumb. Florida fans warned us that he was horrible with young players and could never hold a lead. Same thing happens here. That's not a coincidence. I'm done with DeBoer. I don't want him here any more.

I'm not ready to fire DeBoer. Patience, logic, whatever rational justification you want.

I agree with those who are just as critical of Lou. I'll give him credit for bringing in the new guys. On paper he's replaced Kovy and restored a bit of the NJ Devils identity. But seeing the drought that Henrique, Zajac, Josefson, Zharkov and other homegrown guys go through...Something is wrong with either the way we develop our players or the way we deploy them.

These are guys who should be lifting us up and carrying the burden when the new toys can't get **** done. But while their defensive play is sound, are we going to have to make it out of the first round to see what else they can do again?

(As an aside: it is still comical to me how much Neidermayer's void gave this organization a million reality checks about being a contender. Or so you'd think...)

I know talented defenseman don't grow on trees, but they certainly don't grow on press-boxes either.

Every team has veterans. Every team has kiddos. The implicit job of any veteran is to minimize the growing pains by being reliable themselves. We have a number of veteran players who create problems of their own.

Some of that is on Pete. Some of that is on Lou.
