Do you think that Peladeau would be a better owner?

Would Peladeau be a better owner than Molson?

PKL was the runner up to buy the Habs from Gillette, but lost out because Molson put in a better bid. Since that time, Molson has been content with on-ice mediocrity as he's making money, and Bergevin is a sufficiently good-looking man that fans are willing to forgive a lot, and go out if their way to make excuses for him.

Do you believe that the team would be better, similar, or worse off today if PKL had bought the team?

I don't know, my impression is that PKL is less of a milquetoast than Molson and would never have, for example, become Bergevin's bitch. However, his competitiveness might have driven him to interfere, perhaps too much.

I don't buy that Molson doesn't care about the on-ice product and winning. I think that's an insane take to be honest.

Would Péladeau be better? Maybe. Maybe not. I don't think he would be significantly better or worse. Péladeau looks slightly unstable on social media recently though.

Ummm... aaa-NO! The focus will be on bons pt't gars d'chez nous and the team will have 13 Hudons and 7 Ouilettes. No thank you. This current team sucks, but I can't possibly imagine what the team is going to be like with focus on everything quebecois. Peladeau is Eugene Melnyk en francais.

Nah, we need an oligarch for whose portfolio the Montreal Canadiens would represent but a sliver.

To be honest, Habs need to move out of Quebec to lose that obsession with hiring GM and coach that speak french as the main criteria for hiring. Or a ballsy enough owner with no ties to le belle province who doesn't give a rats ass about how language thing plays out. Hire the best for the job and hire them a translator.

Agreed. Thinking that Molson does not care about winning cause we are frustrated with our team not being contenders is evidence of overreaction. The biggest issue however is Molson as our President. He is not qualified for the job and it's simple as that. He lacks hockey operation experience and has no idea cause that is not his background.

I bet he liked that extra paycheck though...

Molson doesn't give a single f*** about winning, he wants Playoff money and that's it. he doesn't want to win, he wants to contend and make money in 1 or 2 playoff round every year.

Disagree on that. Everyone wants to win and make money. Maybe you have a leg to stand on if you said he values money more than winning but saying he doesn't care about winning? Sorry, I disagree.

Yes, PKP at least has dignity. a lot of honor and wants to win. HE also understand how big of a cultural concept Montreal Canadiens are

An active owner like that doesn't always turn out well... Look at the Sens. The issue we have here is we don't have a hockey guy at president cause the owner put himself as president and he provides no hockey operations value.

Habs #1 problem is our owner is president. He's not a active President where he tells the GM what to do which could cause issues (like the Sens owner) but it's the opposite. He stays quiet cause he can't provide any hockey operations value.

Pretty sure he can oversee business operations as CEO and hire a hockey guy to be the president. It's so obvious it's not funny anymore

I don't think Molson is bad owner. He allows the GM to spend to the cap (which hasn't been done), he let's his GM pay some big up front bonuses (Price got $13M the last two July's, was willing to pay Aho a lot of money up front), he's paying Julien $5M a year and he allows the team to pay some hefty AHL contracts (Lindgren $750k, Varone $450k, Ouellet $300k, Barber $300k)

Molson should not be president though, he should just write cheques and leave hockey decisions to hockey people with someone else overseeing the GM. Molson isn't the type of guy to be proactive when knowing when the time is to look for a different GM or a different direction.

Off course not. He is too indecisive and volatile. Would he be a good VP of operations? Maybe. He is probably what the french media needs to silence them. The Habs number 1 issue is not having a good president.
