If Gillis feels that Malholtra's vision issues are a safety issue than he has every right to do what he did. You have to realize that some people need to be protected from themselves. Some people just won't give up, and for the most part that attitude is a very good thing to have. But when it comes to their health sometimes they won't listen. It's such a tough position to be in too. I think there is no right answer on how to handle these situations.
If you feel Gillis "used" Manny then it sounds to me like you feel he's not healthy enough to play.
Of course there is a right way of doing it. " after medical examinations with three different specialists, Manny Malholtra has not been medically cleared to play, now or in the future. The Canucks organization thanks manny for everything he has done for the team and we wish he will stay on in a player/coach role. We will be waiving his contract to allow Manny the opportunity to do what he thinks is best for him and his family. We do not believe it is in his long term intetest to continue playing the game of hockey. And sadly this marks the end of Mannys playing career in Vancouver"
Manny doesn't need to be protected from himself and I didn't say he's fit to play, my only point was it should be up to a doctor and manny whether he plays hockey and gillis handled it wrong.
Get over yourself.
