Well that didn't take long. Watched until the 1st goal and then just hit fast forward....so I was done like 30 seconds later and spared all the angst. That's typically my SOP for West Coast games and seems to work pretty well.

Brindy needs to switch from Wrigley to f***ing Copenhagen.

A glimpse at the boxscore and a quick review here validates the decision to go to bed before the puck dropped. I won't fall off a cliff like some here and question my fanhood. This is pretty much what I expected this year... again. Middle of the road, some flashes of brilliance followed by very very bad hockey.

I don't understand how a billionaire, who is obviously successful in business, can think it's a good idea to offer such ridiculous salaries to those that actually know this business that it drives away top talent. He knows less about hockey than we do vs. qualified GM & HC candidates. So, we're straddled with an unsuccessful GM, an unqualified HC, and an uneducated, meddling owner. How anyone expects higher than 10th in the East is just as puzzling to me as the decisions TD has made.

I feel like I've been lied to. I was told by our new owner that he would spend money to keep our best players and acquire new ones. I've seen no evidence of this, and plenty of the opposite. I was told by our new coach that he would play the guys who earned their ice, unlike the previous coach. He has done the exact opposite. In 44 years rooting for this franchise, I've been through some very low lows. But never once did I feel manipulated and lied to. Until now. And I seriously think I'm done.

I know your probably frustrated by the loss but there is plenty evidence against your first point even if not to the level of your satisfaction. Carolina took back two players in the Lindholm/Hanifan deal with one player already getting paid who up to this point was a consistent offensive defensiveman and another getting paid at the end of the year in Ferland and by all definition, should by this team since he’s been one of the best. We acquired DeHaan who was argueably one of the best defenseman in FA and are currently paying Darling 4 million to play in the AHL which know one figured they would do. We’ve also been actively trying to sign Aho according to both sides. We’ve spent money and we’re trying to spend more and have shown in Darlings case that we can squander money away if they are not performing. Like I said, might not be to your level of satisfaction. Your not the only one but let’s give it more than one offseason and half a regular season.

Your second point is definitely more true and needs to change.

Not sure what world you are living in where the Hurricanes have spent money. They made a bunch of moves, like the Skinner one, so that they can stay down at the cap floor. Having the lowest payroll year after year is not going to win anything, and this I put right in Dundon's lap. The GM is working with one hand tied behind his back. The coach (who was probably the cheapest one they could get!) is trying to make something out of nothing, and appears to lack the skill to do it.

This is a conversation for another thread but the thing that really frustrates me re: payroll is Dundon said something to the effect of “We have to spend money to make the playoffs. We can’t expect results without spending closer to the cap” in the off-season

Now he went on to talk about the players needing extensions on the horizon. And I get that. But damn does it ever suck to not get results with those same players today. The only thing that’s gonna change is how much money they’re making

Edit: just saw this was discussed on the other page

I’m really struggling to feel different in any way. At this point what CAN’T I take as a fan? Losing isn’t a problem obviously. Being sold BS narratives is how. Trying to reframe the team but somehow it’s the same old potato chips with a new can, and on top of it there may be a new wait for fresh talent after shipping out the last group of talent I waited years for....and rooted for.

It’s one loss, this team is still in it but there’s a stink to the off season that coupled with trying to watch this that just won’t blow away.

I’m not caring. It’s like a bad relationship. I just don’t care.

I only watched the condensed game but I do think there are ways to get more offense out of the group we have available. First would be to put Aho back at center. I don't think he has a point since being moved to wing and whatever mojo Staal once had with him and TT is clearly not there anymore. Next would be to just embrace Staal as what he is, a defensive specialist and not a point scorer. Stick him with McGinn foegele PDG whatever plugs don't fit anywhere else and send them out every time there's a faceoff in the canes zone. This would elevate Rask or wallmark which I'm not crazy about but couldn't be much worse. Play Svech as much as he can handle. Split up slavin and Hamilton. If there really isn't a better option than Faulk as the key cog on the power play let him focus on that and scale back his 5on5 minutes.

And of course everyone at every practice needs to do accuracy drills. Like triple the amount they're not already doing, at least.

They're doing all the right things. The chances are there. Just have to stick with the game plan, and find a way to get some goals.

What has happened to Foegele. He was flying up and down the ice, drawing penalties, and getting breakaways. He wasn't finishing, but he was still a big factor in the game. Now he's hardly noticeable.

Eerily similar with Aho, where he just turned into a pumpkin (to a lesser degree).

It's like they aged 20 years overnight.

You're not alone in this. I don't blame anyone for not being onboard with my pessimism heading in to the year. Dundon and co did a great job of building good will after buying the team but not really doing anything.

Actually I take that back. They moved backwards by moving Skinner even with his issues and not doing a f***ing thing to replace his scoring. And by not using our cap space to be a serious player in free agency. Even with the Svechnikov pick we entered this off-season needing 2 top 6 forwards, both at center. Aho can fill one of those spots but opened a need for a top 6 lw. And instead of trying to sign one we go and trade the one we have for nothing.

Basically this is all to say, hey Dundon put your f***ing money where your mouth is this off-season, because you already punted on this past one.

Dundon was never the saviour we thought he would be. He was willing to buy the team and had more money than PK (maybe), but that is about it. Given what I've seen so far, I fully expect his ownership to be a step backward from PK's ownership in terms of overall franchise success.
