Not sure if you’ve had this answered yet or if I missed the joke (who’s on first?) but it’s actually called “Pardon My Take”

I’m far from a Barstool sycophant but I’ve been listening to it since episode one and really enjoy it. I don’t think you really have to be a Barstool guy to listen to it

Not much hockey talk unfortunately though

I think she’s nothing but a legit broadcaster and hasn’t tried to branch out and be something else just done sideline and studio. Sure there are better but she does well enough to keep working the biggest games.

If we could get whatever we wanted I’d never listen to Joe Buck again and OJ would still be doing sideline interviews though.

she has zero knowledge of the game. she contributes nothing other than an ability to read a teleprompter.

she does a dis-service to the female broadcasters that actually know the sports they cover or contribute actual journalism...like Rachel Nichols, Linda Cohn, Dottie Pepper, Doris Burke, etc

The last thing I want to do is defend Fox News or Tucker Carlson. He’s a propagandist that distracts people from real issues to attack college kids with purple hair, I get it. That doesn’t mean I think everything he says is wrong even though I think it’s used as a distraction.

People can say whatever they want and hopefully they always will be able to in this country.

the misogyny is something they’ve cleaned up over the last couple of years but they’ve (Portnoy) definitely had their moments

Sam Ponder does stink at her job. She didn’t deserve to be called a slut for that. There’s no excuse for that, even if it is one word in an hour long rant. I think that’s why he probably regrets it (that and BVT being cancelled after an episode). He knows he f***ed up

She also shouldn’t have lied and said they told her she should’ve had an abortion and she shouldn’t have falsely accused Big Cat/Dan Katz of saying horrible things about her when he got the show on ESPN

At the end of the day she was attacked first and she has the right to hold any grudges she wants. I think they even admit this from what I remember listening to.

In fairness I don’t think Sam ponder has the job if she wasn’t pretty. You can’t say the same about people like rachel Nichols or Jessica Mendoza imo.

I agree with what you’re saying for the most part though. People would shit on Mendoza for not knowing the game and now I’m pretty sure she’s an advisor in the Mets front office. Seems to know what she’s talking about lol

Meanwhile Tim Mccarver did games for what felt like an eternity and he had no idea what was happening with anything ever

I’m glad we are starting to shift away from the old boys club in sports. Not 100% where we need to be but at least it’s trending the right way. Everything should be merit based. That means no dopes like mccarver calling games for an eternity

No, they did not make a blunder.

This is the kind of stuff people spend their free time getting upset and outraged about? Do people have nothing better to do with their time and hyper-sensitive, "if-I'm-not-having-fun-nobody-can" lives?

I say that about Felger and Mazz on an almost daily basis. Also Haggs, if you can call what he does on NBCSB "broadcasting" (well, he is broad, I'll give him that).

people absolutely say they know nothing and are a waste. you are choosing to ignore that fact

yeah, you dont hear the pretty face piece because thats not what they were hired for. the dominantly male audience doesnt care about a guy's looks. TV executives arent dumb, they know a pretty face sells, so they go and hire the prettiest faces they can to sit at the desk and on the sidelines so the male viewers will see them

    LeBrun
    Dreger
    Felger
    CHB
    Aikman
    Witten
    McCarver
    Buck
    Morgan
    Haggs
    Milbury
    Roenick
    Ordway

and the list goes on...ALL get relentlessly trashed for being awful, dumb, knowing nothing and a waste.

How many of those guys get criticized for being attractive and are expected to better represent their gender?

I read a bit of Barstool when was in college (09-13) but im my senior year I started to realize I was rapidly exiting their target demographic. I haven't been to their site in years, but I see their content on Facebook every do often. They're definitely a big outlet, and with a younger audience, I think its a good way to attract some new fans to the sport of hockey, and more specifically the Bruins, but at the same time I totally get why people could find them objectionable.

At the bottom line, they're an entertainment site, and if you're not into their schtick, they're very easy to avoid. They're far from the first objectionable corporate sponsor in the world of sports.

Fair point. I personally do not care, as long as they are knowledgeable. Give me Kathryn Tappen over any male hockey personality in the world. Am I sexist when I say she is a testament to female sports broadcasters? If not, why is it OK to give her credit for excelling in male dominated field, but it is not OK to criticize one for bringing down the image of female sportscasters if that is what is actually happening?

If you think that a woman in the field is responsible to best represent female sportscasting but don’t think a male in the field is responsible to best represent male sportscasting then yeah, it’s probably sexist.

On a separate point - do you think women with the good looks of Dale Arnold could ever break into the profession and become the norm like it is for male sportscasters (no offense Dale)?

Yeah, just look at Alex Kramer. NESN tries to get sexy hosts, whether they’re male like Dale Arnold or female like Alex Kramer.

Yes, there is more onus on a female to represent female broadcasting because they are a minority competing in male dominated profession. Females excelling in a male dominated fields (medicine, movie direction, chefs, race car driving, politics, etc.) are celebrated all the time, mostly by other females. Why is it sexist for a male to commend them for overcoming the odds and excelling as a minority?

As to your second question, I do not hire the sportscasters. Obviously some companies are seeking to market some personalities via their appearance. That's on them, not me.
