Diaz is the type of player you sacrifice to meet your salary cap obligations to stars like Subban.

Actually, given that he isn't big, doesn't hit, and doesn't put up a lot of points (since his shot seems to consistently not make the net) Diaz is probably a guy who would be undervalued on the free agent market. A guy like Emelin, who has what old-school types value and pay a lot more for, is probably the type of a guy an efficient team would sacrifice.

Agreed. He's a very solid two way defenseman who has proven he can handle top 4 minutes in this league. Good teams don't piss that away for moar size. Of course you want someone better in your top 4 ideally but that doesn't mean we should just throw Diaz away for nothing. I'd like to see him re signed, if Beaulieu or Tinordi aren't ready for top 4 minutes we'll have Diaz who has shown he can handle them. Especially when we consider that Markov returning doesn't seem to be a sure thing, nor do we really know how well he'll play even if he comes back (he's getting to that age where every year is a risk of his play dropping off a cliff).

When will this happen? We don't have all that much time to jettison him, even if it's for a 4th or 5th round pick. Better than ending up with nothing this summer.

+1

I wouldn't even be mad if he becomes Streit 2.0. He has one job and thats to make us forget about Yannick Weber but he failed to do that.

Sick and tired of his softness. Also, isn't he supposed to be an offensive dman? He should have at least 2-4 goals by now. He always misses the net and a couple of one-timers too.

I'm sure there are better RD's out there. MB, get to work, you SOB!

Does anyone know what is the win/loss ratio when Diaz is scratched/injured in the past 2 years, or just this year? Not sure if there's an easy way to calculate it..
