He's 25, so that makes sense... but even in your wildest dreams ... do you really think we have anything better than John Moore here? He is a frigging Bonehead with a capital B. For all of the hate Wood gets for being dumb, I can't even look at Damon's stupid face anymore. Like he's frigging surprised that going 1-on-2 up the center of the ice didn't turn out well.

I disagree. Severson looks like the result of bad parenting. I still think there is still time. But that doomsday clock is at 11:59:59. Keeping hynes as coach and having no vision for management is causing irreversible damage to this developing team.

Trade Hall, Severson and Greene.

I’d keep Simmonds cause he actually has balls, something this team is massively lacking.
Simmonds has equal trade value compared to the player he is and would be a more likely resigning.

it’s almost like hynes’ system revolves around having those high event hybrid defenders. Really feel like hynes has been pointing to advanced analytics in past seasons as reasons the team wasn’t as bad as on ice. Blames goaltending. Lack of high end talent. Shero says ok. Invests in new analytics dude (needs to be fired), acquires new high end/high risk talent and changes the goalie corps. Now all that has failed.

I posted this in a different thread - but.. I went to see the Portland Winterhawks WHL team play last night. They tore up Saskatoon 8-0. No defensemen making wild cross-ice or middle of the ice passes. No wild 'me against the world rushes' with no one back. It was tape-to-tape D-to-D passes until they could find someone with momentum on a short 15-foot pass and they were wonderfully relentless. It was like watching Stevens and Rafalski. Broke up every rush going the other way, never got caught out-numbered, always had one guy in the house, got support from their forwards when they needed it - perfect gap control. It was a clinic by a bunch of 16-20 year olds. So, WHY can't a professional team do the same?

‘yes the more I think about it and see it the more obvious it is. How can the offensive players fully understand their responsibilities if they are also hybrid defenders? This whole system worked for 30 games and the league figured it out and adjusted. Shero is still living in fall/winter 2017

Well man, I hope you're right. I hope that we get a coach with a clue and someone who can turn Damon into a stud. I've lost my patience with him because he's so damn costly to have around.

I don't get the crowd. Nothing is working and more than half of them just sit on their hands regarding Hynes. Do they not have feelings?

At the same time, I've sat in the lower bowl a few times and found that you can hear a pin drop down there.

‘dude has legit talent. I’ve joked he could be a successful forward in this lineup. Tonight was an absolute disaster of a play. It was also a play that I feel he doesn’t make in another system and if he does he’s benched/trade block. Apparently those types of plays have way more leniency than other fundamentals. Leads me to believe it’s being encouraged for its aggressiveness and only discouraged because of consequence

Yeah that was crazy during the presser, this dude will never take any responsibility for anything, ever.

Unless it's his amazing roster moves that result in a win lol.

You got that right, certainly.

Wonder if Bratt and Zacha heard all the fire hynes chants coming from 106 and 107. The dude next to me was crazy loud about it, lol. They must feel happy not to get blamed for this one....

At no point this entire year have the Devils played even a single period where they looked like the could be a playoff team.
Not even close.

Watching highlights of good teams like Boston etc. is sickening .
I am on the west coast I watch the later games after the Devils and it is incredible how much of a difference there is watching other teams other than the Devils.
So much more speed , tape to tape short passes that connect and generates speed through the neutral zone . Teams cycling the puck for an intire shift , players interchanging and finding the quiet spots on the ice to generate chances.
I can go on for hours the difference of good teams vs this garbage system and style the Devils are playing

It so is obvious that this is not working , how can Shero not see this ?
Is it that he would look bad as he gave Hynes an extension then fire him shortly after ?
I dot get it anymore and it’s driving me crazy

The devils compared to a top nhl team is so extreme it is crazy.
The islanders lineup is nothing too hot , they have one “star” player and a bunch of decent /good players but nothing amazing
They just had a 16 game unbeaten streak broken .....
There is no way in hell the Devils should be this bad and it’s not the players.....
yes our D could use some work but with our forwards , how the hell is it even possible to look this bad .
We should be at least able to score more than 1 or 2 goals a game for craps sake.

I really hope it’s Hynes and his stupid system that is causing it but Nico , Hall , Palms , Gusev , all guys who are supposed to be dynamic are playing like Pooh

Time to bring in an actual NHL coach . None of this amateur hour minor league BS .
This team does not look even close to be looking remotely competitive

this.

We’re in a vortex for over a year. The results have been the same. The players are numb, the fans are aware and management is just trying to cover their asses. This is a huge f***ing mess and I don’t think shero is the type to clean it up. He looks amazing giving a keynote until there’s no more story to tell. He’s out of good stories. Ultimately if the Harris bottom line is still there— don’t expect change.

tbh now looking at the devils owners history and the emerging nj sports betting landscape. These owners aren’t interested in building a winning team but a winning live casino. Whatever I miss lou and hockey oriented teams.

Just seeing the highlight of the final goal now...woof. That's Cory against Vegas from last year type bad. The Wild announcers didn't even realize the puck went in, they were just going off on a tangent about nothing

The fact that we traded a *backup goalie last year only to trade for another *backup goalie who is arguably interchangeable is a reason shero needs to be fired.

* back up goalie on 90% of the teams in the league and split starter here.

Damon Severson is just a net negative on the ice. I am tired of him. I am tired of people making excuses for him too.

He demonstrates a total resolve to continually make risky plays that cost the team game after game. He does this in every situation, whether the Devils are down a goal, tied, or up a few goals. He plays an amateur style, and his career was saved by his offensive skills which still do not even equate to the numerous defensive mistakes he makes game after game.

I would rather take some random player from the AHL, preferably a younger one, and have him play games in the hope that he learns a defensive style that Damon Severson has never tried to learn.

Hynes post game pressers are really telling. He is truly delusional, he believes in his system and is faulting the players. You can tell Zacha/Bratt know he is the problem, and Hynes as a result is showing vengeance against them.

But he is costing his job by doing so. If he really thinks guys like Wood, Hayden, and Seney (guys he refuses to bench over Zacha/Bratt) will produce 1/10th of what Zacha/Bratt could do then its simply laughable.

I just do not understand scratching skilled players who have already played in the league for a few years. They have paid their dues. They have shown fantastic amounts of skill and can play in different situations like the PP, pk, and 5v5. Can one of those 3 play on the PP besides stand in front of the net?
