No, he wouldn't. The Devils would get the normal collection of stuff - a 1st round pick, maybe 2 of them, a prospect or two, and a contract of some sort. This sounds like a lot but it seldom amounts to a whole lot.
Agree. We would only be trading 1 year of Taylor Hall at $6 million. That is not that valuable. I cannot believe Hall would agree to a sign and trade. He earned the right to test the FA market if he so chooses.

"While I would like to get his contract off the books ASAP, buying him out would mean a $2 million cap hit for the next 6 years. Teams that are cup contenders do get close to the cap which hopefully the Devils will be in 3-4 years or so. If we could hold on for one more year we could get that down to 4 years." @ChicksDigTheTrap

If this team loses Hall AND Schneider doesn't bounce back, there is about a 5% chance this team is anywhere near a contender four years from now.

2mil a year for 6 means nothing for this team.

Only Barkov is higher than Nico in terms of Goals Above Replacement in regards to Penalties in the whole league.

This seems to be the new stat you're obsessed with. You never mentioned it until relatively recently, now you post every other day about GAR this and GAR that.

A few things for folks to at least know about GAR:

It's literally made/created by one guy, his methodology is not publicly known or fully made available (at least when I checked about a year ago), it's partially subjective rather than quantitative, and it purportedly at least partially relies around regression analysis in places.

Just thought I'd put that Public Service Announcement (PSA) out there in case not everyone is aware of all that. If folks think some of these "advanced" (love that term) stats are at times nebulous or somewhat confusing, GAR will make your head spin. IMO, it seems they tried to steal from baseball and apply it to hockey, and I'm just not sure it really applies well to hockey (at all frankly).

Cult of Hynes

Would you consider that we have all strongly criticised Schneider. Some have criticissed KK. We all have criticised every defenseman on this team constantly or more than 50% of the time. On the offense we have criticised every player except Nico, Palmieri, Zajac, Bratt, Coleman, Seney and Hall (?). So of the offense we have criticised 8 of the 15. That's a total of 16/17 players of 23. In general we feel these 16/17 players are too old or lack skills .
We know we are rebuilding. We know last season we overachieved based on this season.

So here is the question: How can we put 100% of the blame on Hynes? Lower the percentage to 50% same thing.

No coach can make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t. So a replacement has the same problem.

We are rebuilding too slowly IMO. Either the owners or Shero or a combination screwed up. We all knew we needed help on the defense and yet nothing happened in the off season.

Please consider what a new coach would accomplish other than change for change sake this remaining season.

I am faulting Shero and the owners for where we are right now. I am not expecting a Cup team today. I am expecting year to year improvement during the rebuild.

You're still going with the Hynes apologist stuff lol?

hockey isn't baseball in that every stat isn't purely situational and compartmentalized. as much as everyone wants it to be. advanced stats can be useful but never tell the whole story

1) I'm just simply opening up a newer stat to people for them to explore. If they don't agree with it or don't like it, they don't have to use it. Never did I say it was this perfect stat that everyone has to follow and if Player A has a GAR over Player B then they're better. We are all hockey fans. I imagine most people on this site read this site to learn more or try to understand more about the game each and every day. It's why I do it. You don't have to discredit or get so fired up about people that disagree with you.

2) I've used GAR in the past. But like you said it is a relatively newer publicly made stat so now that there's more information on it I've been using it more. I know you got my profile on speed dial these days since anything that doesn't mention the eye-test or how much Severson and the defense sucks triggers you, but I promise you'll survive bud.

3) If people want to learn more about GAR, I'd be happy to provide them with links that they could follow or people they could read about. Once again, I think everyone can decide for themselves whether they agree with it or not. That's my Public Service Announcement.

4) I truly for the life of me don't understand why anything that doesn't fit your own rationale upsets you so much. Like you seem genuinely bothered by some posts. Not to mention you spend a boat load of time posting things that do not even make sense. It's concerning.

And literally find one post of anyone saying a certain advanced stat tells the whole story. The only people that convey that are the anti-analytics guys claiming that pro-analytic guys say that.

So agree, but like you also said, they can be very useful. I was just simply sharing some stats since I know many people would not know where to find them.

that wasn’t a personal attack on you or your posting at all but it is a very common tactic here to try and prove people wrong about their opinions on players/teams by citing a stat that selectively proves their point without really having context
