He did say he was good at stopping the puck first. You might want to actually watch the video before going off on it.

I took too much stock in BG's post :

When asked about Domingue, Hynes talked more about his "ability to move the puck" and transition to offense, than he talked about his ability to.....uhhh....you know... stop the puck.

I've never seen an NHL coach so 100% completely obsessed with offense before.

I mistook that for Hynes not talking about him stopping the puck, period.

Guess you're right.

I should have watched the vid before going off the deep end about it. :dunno::dunno::dunno:

that’s exactly what hynes did. he said domingue did 2 things really well: 1) stopping the puck and 2) moving the puck.

besides that, how people talk (or what they talk about) isn’t up to you. whether it’s hynes or fraser or hall etc.

Yeah I saw the vid and he did say that.

That was a "my bad" on me.

And yes, it's not up to me but I will say what I want to say on it regardless.

Odd comment given we are the 5th best team in shots against this year.

People make too much of stuff like this. If you're the #1 team in the entire NHL in SA, you're only about 3 or 4 shots per game better than the NHL Mean. It's the quality of the shots you allow that's far more impactful. Or, in the Devils case, it's the fact that the "system" is so risky it results in almost 1 guaranteed fender-bender per night, often several more.

Hynes should do these but he wont...

Hall Hischier Palmieri
Zacha Zajac Gusev
Bratt Hughes Simmonds
Wood Coleman Boqvist/Seney
Hall-Hischier-Palmieri
Bratt-Hughes-Simmonds
Seney-Zajac-Gusev
Zacha-Coleman-Wood

4 lines that will control possession , SCORE and be hard to play against.

Bratt is an upgrade.

The Zajac line showed chemistry especially in the 3rd. Zajac provides solid defence with his strength on the puck and faceoff wins. Gusev and Seney play a similar game and compliment each other well. Both can make plays and score. Gusev had the puck a lot tonight.

Coleman played great on Center. Zacha is an upgrade.

This is misleading. While this is true, you are also 6-8 shots off the NHL worst. Which amounts to 500 shots over a given season. That's a lot. Last season the difference between the top and bottom team was 600 shots and that to me is a sign of parity, because there are certainly years where it has been worse.

The Devils might be playing a bad system, but the people who constantly say 'there is no system' - it's just not possible to have these kinds of results without a system.

Well the deviation from the mean is one thing, say 3-4 shots in this case, but the difference between the Devils and the worst teams in the league is over 6 shots per 60(it's late so I'm not looking up the per game stats). So night after night the worst teams are averaging 36 shot per game against while the Devils are a little under 30. That is significant. Certainly not indicative of a coach who only cares about offense.

Now are there risky elements to Hynes system? I can see more of an argument here. And risky is maybe not the best description, demanding might be a better term, but even then, Greene doesn't seem to fall victim to these issues as much as Sev's or Subban. Or Butcher who is certainly more on the skilled side of the d-man spectrum, he's not making these blatant errors at the rates of other guys, so there is an execution portion of this equation.

End of the day I think Hynes gives guys freedom, he welcomes players who are willing to push the puck ice, but he does not demand it and is actually willing to play guys who play a much more conservative game.

Winning this game with a lineup that isn't even our best (while we've lost A LOT of games with a lineup that is our best) just goes to show you that any team can win any night in the NHL (or any sport) and that there is an element of luck to this.

Although, the Red Wings are probably a bottom-3 roster in the league, so it's easier to have this kind of a win against them than all but maybe 2 or 3 other teams in the league.

And we would probably still lose to them more often than not.

Well at least we've had a winning record in games I've attended this year, that was #3

Of course the opener was one loss that should have never been but yeah, at least glad I've been there for a few wins amid this nightmare
So if you wouldn't have been too cheap to buy season tickets ...
