Best stretch of hockey we’ve had in a full year. But factor in soft schedule and opponents also playing down to us (Philly). But no matter, it’s been relaxing to watch games like the last 2 where everything goes right and you get the bounces too (Philly with Couturier or Koneckny shanking an open net goal into the post, plus a couple other bounces). I’ll take it for sure. It’s about time.

And not too far behind Schneider and Domingue since the 2016-2017 season among active goalies (he’s not currently active but was in the NHL this year before being waived and ending up in the minors) is Keith “Better than Blackwood and will be a starter in the NHL in 2019-2020” Kinkaid.

B2B shutouts taking 1st star

Good for Mac, well done

Except for a couple times getting hemmed in again, team effort and structure in our own zone has gotten more consistent bit by bit

I was expecting from McLellan something more like “Yeah, we didn’t have our legs because you’re playing a game that’s 4:00 PM our time. It’s hard to get up for a game when it ends a whole half hour before the majority of our games even start and it’s not like we’ve been on the east coast for 5 days already and played two games out here before tonight ”.

Coleman-Hughes-Gusev.

It's really not rocket science but w/e. Maybe the coaching staff will realize it eventually.
Stop.
The only ray of sunshine this season and glimmer of decent hockey was brought about by having one solid line play consistent hockey. It's the line that started the game and it needs to stay together, unless you are just looking for reasons to bitch about how terrible goose is defensively and want more threads about how our number 1 pick can't play against men.

For Pete's sake, Trav takes all of the pressure off of both those guys and just lets let play their game. Which is exactly what we want. What, we need to change things up because two guys are playing beyond expectations? Let's try to add a rookie who is hitting a wall. I'm sure that will bring them back down.

And I looked at the same MSG replays and on one angle, it did not hit Palms at all.

Though I did finally see the other angle and saw it MAY have hit off of him after all.

Still don't like that as I think the Puck was heading into the net (far bottom-post corner) anyway and this just looks like Palms stole a goal from Jack (all because he was at the right place for the puck to hit his leg).

Whatever. Congrats to Palms, I guess (enjoy the freebie, pal. Don't forget that it was Bratt, Greene and Jack that did all the work)

Oh that's right : We won another game. "Hooray".

Really?? I thought it was all filmed in and around Philly. I know I've recognized some neighborhoods but I guess that was just B roll. Ehh, that sucks.

They do shoot on location in Philly, but it's rare and probably expensive.

Only the Capitals coaching staff and management think Holtby is elite anymore.

But honestly, many fans and media do as well, but it’s merely due to reputation and not representative of what he is now.
You have to give Washington's management a lot of credit for using a 1st round pick back in 2015 on Samsonov while Holtby was in his prime. They knew Holtby be in the time frame he would be declining and they were prepared for it.

It's not so much they thought Holtby would be declining - it'd be pretty cynical to think a guy's going to decline AT 30 - but you never know what happens when a guy gets to FA age (i.e. if he leaves or not) and he's up for FA after this year. That's why Lou and Conte obsessed over using first rounders on Ahonen and Damphousse in Marty's prime, in case he ever left I suppose.

That is the age the typical goalie starts to decline

Conclusion: I’m going to use the Linear aging curve going forward in my Hockey Marcels, but no matter which one you use a few points are still clear:
1. Goalies don’t improve as they get older
2. By age 30, goalie decline starts to get REALLY noticable
3. By mid-30s, even with the aging line, goalies rapidly start to fall apart.

How well do goalies age? A look at a goalie aging curve.

Since it typically takes 5 years or so from the time a goalie is drafted to be ready for the NHL (if they are ever good enough) the Caps played it well.
