For the hell of it, I looked it up. Zacha actually has a better shooting percentage than Hall this year. Does it mean Zacha is better than Hall? No. What it does mean is that Hall gets a **** ton of scoring chances (because he's so damn good) but needs just about as many chances to score as Pavel does.

That's like when people say a guy like Kobe also led the league in missed shots. You have the score so much that you can't ALWAYS score so you're also going to miss a lot.

Most forwards peak in the 24-27 range now, so at 21 he still has a few solid years of development before we can stop expecting more.

Yeah, 24-27 seems to be the money age and the issue of RFA deals is the next war waiting to happen.

A side-note: this is a strange time too with all the information and immediate feedback. As the average player gets better, I also think the best players in the league are becoming capable of more and more incredible heights and greater longevity. On a lot of fronts, players are getting better at every age - technical skills, mental health/philosophy, tactics.

Exactly, it's not like he's had a career like yayo or tedenby

More often than not he is though. Even if it's not on the score sheet he's still excelling defensively which given the current state of this team is almost just as valuable.

Zacha centering for Wood and Noesen is a nice move by Hynes. Finally a line that makes Hockey sense for Zacha and for Wood too. A big, heavy forecheck line that can keep things simple for both of them, where both can know their roles and keep the game simple.

Will Hynes have the smarts to stay with it? I have hated the lack of consistent lines and roles for guys. This line makes sense for the club too as we’ve been so lacking a physical game this year. But Zacha, Wood and Noesen can put the body on guys. And we so desperately have needed that element.

I also think that Santini with Vats (Vats playing on his off side too) have looked fairly decent.

He actually had a pretty decent rookie season (22 points in 58 games). He just did nothing after that (8 points in 62 games).

I disagree with you. Too many of today’s players still read Hobbes and Machiavelli and argue they are still relevant in the post modern age.

I had said a few days ago that PZ has to be a consistent offensive threat, take that step up.

    He was today.

I was very pleased with PZ today.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind that today’s game is a loss with either Cory or Keith in net. 5 games is a small sample but I’m fully convinced that Blackwood gives this team its best chance to win.

I dunno. It's not even 5 games. It's only 10 periods. I hope he keeps it up, but we really gotta temper our expectations.

Well I’m just going based on the fact that today’s game is the type of game this team has lost 10 + times this season. They weren’t sharp offensively but Blackwood came up with one key save after the next to give them a shot. Trust me, I’m not one to pile on Cory or Keith, but they haven’t been able to provide this level of goaltending as much as necessary. Blackwood just looks so settled in goal and it’s really encouraging.

I think we've won a game or two like this with Keith this year, but he's been pretty miss lately.

Outside of the playoffs, Cory hasn't had a game this good in over a year. The only regular season start he had where he allowed fewer than 3 goals in the last 52+ weeks was a 2 goal against game against these same Hurricanes, and he allowed both goals in the first 30 seconds. I really think Cory's time here is finished after this year, be it by way of buyout or LTIRement. I can't see him here next year as an active player. I don't even think he's as good as twilight era Marty at this point. He's barely been a .900% goalie for 100 games now and has been worse than twilight DiPietro for the last 25 games.

I'm not sure what to make of Blackwood just yet. Still early, but we finally got two good starts from a non-Kinkaid goalie this year. The first one didn't come until right before Christmas.

He’s wearing one of those hexagon pad shirts the little kids wear to play peewee football. Why am I not surprised.

Zacha also has more tools in his box then those too. It isn’t unreasonable to be patient with him.

11 shots in the last two games is nice to see. He’s normally between 0-2 shots. Hopefully this is a sign he’s finding his confidence.
