2022 Cup to Calgary
So you're saying that if Mueller didn't get hurt, the Flames would've run up the score?

Come on, man.. Don't be coming in other team's GDT saying things like that.

You're right, I didn't mean it that way.

What I meant was that when Mueller got injured both teams just wanted the pretty meaningless game to be over as did most fans of both teams.

He frankly looks like a poor/awkward skater. It looks like his skating style is different than it was in juniors too. More hunched like he is looking to force power. Not sure what happened, but he just looks, well, bad. I don't even see NHL potential there.

couldn't disagree more.. needs to hone in his speed and figure out how to utilize much like miles wood.. i thought mcleod.. played well.. give the guy more than 3 games to write him off.. his speed is well above NHL average not sure what you are looking at there.. but let him play a little .. let him learn and find confidence..etc..

Whether Mueller was the cause or not, it seemed like they let off the gas after the injury. The testiness there was preinjury disappeared

I gotta credit the team for not allowing 40 shots tonight, as I thought unless the Flames blew this game open early, it was a lock for 40 shots and we only allowed 35.

I think Blackwood flattered the score though. Not saying it should have been a blowout, but I bet it would have been 4 goals against with the way Kinkaid had been playing lately. And then instead of crediting the team, it would have been ''The defense is bad and no goalie can look good here''. Although I will say, Blackwood probably allows another goal on most nights we play like this and maybe even 2 more on some other nights we look like this.

i assume mcleod.. is topic.. thought he wasn't bad tonight in spots

It's not that he's "bad", it's just he looks completely not noticable/not impacting the game.

If i remember correctly, those games when Wood started coming up in NHL, he was like a wild guy on the ice. Fast as hell, heavy hitting. Like a bigger Grabner without any honed skills whatsoever.

McLeod just doesn't seem to bring "anything" at this moment. I noticed a lot of people mention his speed, but i didn't see it from the TV. Maybe easier live in arena than from TV.....granted.

I know he's barely been here, but was hoping to see a bit more...

I was expecting the Flames to pour it on the PPs...... somehow this team made it out (mostly). MB had a good game, regardless of the loss.

So is it safe to say that Both goals on Blackwood were unstoppable?

I think so.

The first was just the flukiest goal I've ever seen since Mark Fayne's floater-special.

The second was just a nifty deke by the Flames player for the goal.
The first goal clearly went off the skate of Vatanen. I wouldn't mark either down as stoppable.

Although the one weakness I can say for Blackwood is that he seems to be easily deked, which is customary of most big goalies.

Make no mistake, this was the kind of game where we probably get the score rung up against us with December-February Kinkaid or Cory before his most recent return from injury.

At least Blackwood is no Yann Danis. :sarcasm:

He isn’t ready. He looks unsure of himself out there. His game in the AHL has been improving, but he just seems like the type of player that needs a lot more pro development.

Just got home from the game. Maybe the smallest crowd of the season - no shock there. Not sure if it was posted here earlier or elsewhere, but Mueller was able to move all extremities and was sitting up before being taken to University Hospital - this from the post game with Matt and Chico as well as Hynes' presser.

Zacha is better than half of the fwd lineup tonight. That is for sure. Makes you appreciate Zacha, to be honest.

Zacha >> Agostino >> Rooney >> Bastian >> Lappin/Pietila/McLeod

Did I miss anyone...... (Yaks FWD*)

Sad, but true. Devils in bigger trouble if Zacha is one of the better players.

Is there a single game the rest of the season where you could honestly say the Devils should be favored to win? We're through with LA (who did just kill us themselves) and Ottawa so probably not. Seven of the next nine on the road against almost all tough teams could get really ugly.
Woohoo!

Woohoo?

Ehhh...

Hi, Flames fan.

This wasn't supposed to be a statement game.

It was supposed to be the 2nd night of a B2B, 3rd in 4 nights game, after putting in 3 on a pretty physical and tough to score on Islanders team the night bedore.

And the Mueller injury kind of kills anyone's desire to run up the score.

Anyways i was just here to give props to Blackwood. Looks like a keeper.
Hi, Devils fan.

Hi, also a hockey fan.

So I'm not sure what's better to you, the Flames beating other teams depleted lineups or the empathy they showed by quitting after a defenseman on the opposing team was taken off on a stretcher?

Strange things any ways *said in my best Borat accent*.

Of course he's wrong.

The Devils started 10....... let that sink in a bit...... TEN.......players from their AHL team, and the Flames barely hung on to win the game.

Also, check out Calgary's record against Eastern playoff seeded teams this year (mere .500), it aint pretty for the top team in the West. The Western Conference is trash.
That poster is always way over the top.

As for our record against playoff seeded teams in the East...
  • NYI: 2-0-0
  • WSH: 0-1-1
  • CAR: 2-0-0
  • TBL: 0-1-1
  • BOS: 1-1-0
  • TOR: 1-0-0
  • MTL: 0-2-0
  • PGH: 1-1-0
We have losing records against the best team in the league (like basically everyone else), against the defending Cup Champions and Montreal (who we played really early in the season before we got going and who we are unlikely to face in the playoffs anyways). Overall we are .533, but when you compare that to Boston (#2 in the east) against those same teams, they are .556, which in that small of a sample size is not much of a difference (3 games over .500 vs 1 over .500, with the former having more GP).

But, is there really a need to take one extreme posters terrible opinions and use it to crap all over the rest of us?
