Everything we have is ownership wanting that. We have it on record Harris really wanted Hall to stay long term.

We have reports Shero was not comfortable with the Subban trade.

All we have is one rando on this board with zero connections trying to claim ownership is the ones who really want to sell and Shero wanted to buy.

Where is this BS coming from?

also top 10 in the league and the best record since like December 8th
Columbus can win a lot of games if they play Torts system and get goalie play like that. It’s hell to watch; though less hellish than watching us. And in the end they will then meet a much more talented club in the playoffs, one that also has patience against them, and lose.

Jack’s season has been a mess. He is 18 slight of frame and has never experienced any hockey adversity until now. He’s had some bumps and bruises to go with terrible coaching and linemates that don’t complement him. He’s been disappointing but he’s also been somewhat set up to fail.

I’m not too worried, being first overall in weak draft prevented him from getting a year of college in before the NHL for seasoning. If I remember correctly before the draft his parents said he probably should go to college first.

He’s young for his draft class, his brother is a year and 7 months older than him and played two seasons in college before this season. Unlike Quinn. Jack has to mature and learn in while in the NHL.

While his points are disappointing, his underlining stats are good, it’s not like he’s lost out there. If you look at his Hockeyviz charts he’s one of the few players on this team who actually makes other players better, his playing making skills are already evident.

Considering he was injured in the Bruins game and then hit hard by the flu I’m willing to write off his struggles of late. He’s getting a week off right when he needs it, I’m hoping the break will give him a bit of a reset.

That’s not what the report said. It said Shero was “pulled in different directions” on the trade. Meaning he probably wanted Subban and the analytics team was advising ownership against it. It was never stated that Shero was opposed to the Subban trade. Just that there was a disagreement within the organization on whether to do it.

Given that Shero texted the notorious green check mark to Hall after the deal happened and said he really pushed Poile on it, it’s safe to say that Shero was advocating for the trade.

Gotcha, that makes sense.

As good as he was for his age cohort hard to believe he won’t be successful long term as long as he works for it.

A good coach , even an average NHL goalie , Smith progresses , the two first round ( maybe more ) picks in the draft that can be two picks in the top 15 , plus a UFA D like Muzzin , fresh start and get some confidence and I would not be surprised to see them as legit playoff contenders

Enough with the talk of Hughes being a bust . He is about 1/2 way through his first NHL season ... If he still is putting up numbers like this in 3 years then we can talk about him being a bust .
No doubt this team is terrible right now but we have a very good base moving forward .
#1/2 Centers are there . It’s nearly impossible to obtain those via trade . Other teams have been trying for years to obtain just one ( Preds /Habs Rangers etc etc)
Next hardest to get are legit 1/2 D . Smith may be a 2 or 3 D man , we will have a very high pick next draft with a chance of the Yotes pick being 10-15 and able to get two high end players .
Add in whatever we may get from trade deadline deals and it’s not as bad and all doom and gloom .
Sign a UFA goalie stop gap like Halak / Lehner / and try for Muzzin .
With some luck and good decisions by our GM , being competitive and a playoff wildcard team as early as next year isn’t completely insane to think is possible
If he’s putting up numbers like this next year we can have the discussion

So zacha on the first line is the issue?

even with palms back bratt is not a 1st liner on 99% of nhl teams. He’s just not there yet.

Saying that Bratt is "just not there yet" does not equal "OH MY GARD!! IT'S CRIMINAL!! CALL THE POLICE!!" :scared::scared::scared::scared:

That first line was doing fine when Palms was on their wing.

Where was your whining about Bratt then?

That line just needs a finisher/scorer.

someone who is injured right now.

Wayne Simmonds wasn't that guy. lol

EDIT : No response? How "surprising".

Jack Hughes numbers are not the problem. Even if it will take 3 years for his stats to improve. His style of play is concerning. I don't like his play-making skills, or defensive skills. He makes extremely bad passes on average. They are nervous with bad decision making behind them. Goose is a better passer. He chokes the puck up a lot, and dangles too much. Unnecessary 1 vs 2, 1 vs 3. His defensive play is also not there yet. Lots to do with his size. Can't judge him just yet. Way too young. His IQ is the only thing I don't like as of now. I don't think he will ever be a #1 center. Maybe #2. Too early to tell.

To me his numbers are actually good.

Though if I never see Rooney and Hayden again, I wouldn’t mind.

I was looking at who had some of the worst advanced stats at Natural Stat Trick and Hayden is in the top (bottom?) ten. Rooney is pretty bad, just a spare forward for pk, but Hayden shouldn’t be in the NHL. He’s an offensive black hole, not good defensively and going to be 25 at the end of the season so there’s no reason not to cut bait.

As a side note, Zacha is at best a forth liner on a average team. As a side side note, Boqvist has struggled but it seems like he worked well with Hughes and Simmonds, I’d like to see them play together again. (from Hockeyviz)

We would have to badly overpay to get Muzzin here. Like really badly. It isn’t happening.

Bad teams can run hot. Jackets are not good. Torts squeezing everything and more out of that roster with his 6 goalie system doesn’t makes them actually good.

If they make the playoffs, and that’s a big if, they are going no where.

They going to buy again this deadline and deplete what’s left of their farm on a team no where near a cup? Bully for them.

Also I am very encouraged by the recent revival in Binghamton’s play. We have a lot of young assets down there. Bastian. McLeod has looked good to me the few games he’s given a shift here. A pile of others. That depth should be a key piece in trending upward.

McLeod is not even a good AHL player. He will go the same way as Quenneville. He will either be cut or traded for another bust. To be honest, there is not one guy in Bing who looks like an NHL impact player. Matsev is probably the one I have the highest hopes for and Zetterlund could be something too, but we certainly are not talking star potential here.

Eventually many will come around to the unpopular idea that he’ll be better off as a top LW.
