How is this for cherry picked?

2020 Hughes December 7th on pace for 34.69 points -
35 points would be the worst #1 overall 18 year old campaign since Patrik Stefan two decades ago.

2019 Dahlin Dman 44 points
2018 Hishier 52 points
2017 Matthews 69 points
2016 McDavid 45 points in 48 games
2015 Ekblad Dman 39 points
2014 MacKinnon 63 points
2013 Yakopov 31 points in 48 games
2012 RNH 52 points in 62 games
2011 Hall 42 points in 65 games
2010 Tavares 54 points
2009 Stamkos 46 points
2008 P Kane 72 points
2007 Erik Johnson went to College #2 Overall Jordan Staal 42 points
2006 Crosby 102 points -
2005 Lockout - Would've been Ovechkin's 18 year old season
2004 Fluery was the #1 in the 2003 draft - Eric Staal # 2 overall 31 points
2003 Rick Nash 39 points
2002 Kovalchuk 51 points in 65 games
2001 Rick DiPietro was #1 in 2000 - Danny Heatley #2 overall 67 points
2000 Patrik Stefan 25 points
I don’t give a half a **** what he’s on pace for with months to go in the season. Taylor Hall has 5 goals. PK Subban hasn’t had a point in 16 games. Use your head.

MacKinnon has 38 points in 64 games in his second year. Only had 52 points in his third year. It takes some time to put it together. Don’t be a clown.

None of that changes the fact that as of right now Hughes is on pace to have the worst 18 year old campaign from a #1 overall in 20 years.

Edit- Hopefully he starts scoring in bunches sometime soon..Cause I would expect the second half is going to tougher than the first for him

This team needs an entirely new offensive scheme.

This team (also) needs an entirely new defensive scheme.

There are 2 teams which have scored fewer goals than the Devils, and there are 2 teams which have allowed more goals scored than the Devils.

Stamkos had 14 pts in hist first 40 games.
Hall had 11 pts in his first 23 games.
Staal had 9 pts in his first 28 games.
Nash had 15 pts in his first 35 games.

They all had good seasons and ended up having good careers. Hughes and his 11 pts in 25gms will be just fine man. He is a young 18 year old on a shit team. His play is whats important and he has been good and is only getting better.

Get off the crazy train.

While I do think Hughes has played better than his point total and it's not a huge concern after 25 games, I don't really take the lack of supporting cast excuse seriously since most of these #1 picks are going into situations without a supporting cast. Heck most of them probably don't have a Hall to begin with.

Hah yeah real brilliant of the staff not to play Gusev on the 3-on-3 with all that open ice. Palmieri was nowhere to be found either on that list lol

Name the last #1 overall who had worse than 40... every#1 goes to a bad team and even Yakopov managed over 40...his production is worrisome right now.

Do you realise Jack is the only player to ever go straight from the USNTDP to the NHL. You can't really compare him to the others because he hasn't played in juniors or Europe like every other 1st overall.

I might care if:
1- he was more than 25 games into his career
2- he actually ended the season with the worst 1OA pick point production
3- someone drafted behind him didn't look like total Kaka. Yes, I've said it, Hughes simply looks like a talented shrimpy kid, but Kakko has looked like hot garbage. Watching him on a good night reminds me of Zacha as a rookie, some talent but not putting things together, but on a bad night (which is most nights for the pride of Finland) he looks more lost than Cory Schneider does whenever he tries to play the puck behind the net.

Plus when PK Subban has five points (none in sixteen games) and is a -12 and Taylor Hall has four non-empty net goals, the production of an 18-year old kid is more indiciative of the lack of production throughout the roster.

We've scored 2 goals or less in 12 of our last 16 games. Where is Hughes, who is a playmaker, going to pick up a bunch of points if the team isn't scoring goals and he's not getting much PP time?

Hughes was easily our best player last night, but yes let's blame him for the woes of the team.

Mainboard narrative during the offseason was that he wasn't NHL ready and wouldn't get that many points. Suddenly he's on pace for not that many points from a slow start on this pathetic team and he's a bust? Which is it, was this expected or not?

If Jack was looking like crap it would be totally reasonable to be worried. But he’s been mostly excellent this season and easily our best player 5 or more games this year.

It feels like he hasn’t gotten a secondary assist all year and hasn’t had much shooting luck. The points will come.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these...

Nico isn’t anywhere near a threat offensively 2 years later

As bland as his point totals look they aren’t far off his average apparently. He seems like one of those guys that will improve as the team does. To me Hughes looks dangerous most shifts these days and has little to show for it in comparison. I expect both to get better results as the season rolls on.

The points will come when we have a real coach.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Barely anything has changed here. I'd say their breakout has been better with the puck side forward no longer flying the zone, but our offensive zone set up is still questionable and our power play disgusting.
