Our horse manure team's beaten them in three blowouts (combined 13-3 score) with Domingue and Cory starting all the games, that's all you need to know about this Dead Wing team.
Aren't they like 0-19-1 against the metro now or some ridiculous record?

the amount of fights doesn't mean much. Why do people think the devils offered 5 million dollars per year for simmonds? to protect hughes and add some toughness. Its not a coincidence the first game without simmonds on the ice with hughes and there is an incident.

Other guys will have to step up but Simmonds earned that respect through the years now they have to fend for themselves etc. which is fine but when they traded simmonds they opened up hunting season.. no disrespect to Hayden.. but he isn't Simmonds.. I will stand by my opinion that getting a lousy 5th round pick for Simmonds wasn't worth it.
i think we paid him big because he offered some protection, but i don't think he was the sole tough guy

i think we overpaid because we could, and because of this potential situation - having him means we can trade him at the TDL for essentially a free asset

People are big mad about Jack knocking Fabbri out as if Fabbri didn’t try to elbow him in the head 5 seconds earlier.

Its not crazy. I wouldn't say anyone is freaking out. but you have an 18 year kid that weighs 160lbs playing first line minutes.. he could use a full year of protection out there.. its not crazy to think thats not worth a next to useless 5th round pick..you ar event

So much THIS. :clap::clap::clap:

The threat of Simmonds dropping the gloves and going after you OR nailing you with a very hard check into the boards was always there. And the only ones who would dare to do it are the other enforcers on opposing teams. In the first game without him, we saw basically every single Wings player(sans the Goaltender, Coach, and Equipment Manager) take runs at him.

The downplaying of "trading Simmonds for basically nothing" is ridiculous.

It's almost like some are *trying* to rationalize such a pointless deal when they could've just let him walk this offseason if they didn't want him. It's only 20 more f'n games, for god's sake. :loony:

And let's face it, the chances of BuffaLOL making the playoffs(to make the 5th become a 4th) are only slightly better than ours (which still isn't good). :snide:

I’ve seen plenty of games where Hughes was getting roughed up and Simmonds did nothing too deter it.

Nobody was quaking in their boots that Simmonds is going to try and go after him. He threw like 1 body check or 1 face wash every 4 games and fought as much as Severson.

Hayden sticking a guy in the face was more future deterrent than anything Simmonds did this season; if you believe in some deterrent theory.

Simmonds was bad at ice hockey and also bad at being a deterrent this season. So I’d say he stunk at both his main jobs.

Simmonds was here to stand in front of the net and win board battle and that's precisely what he did. Too bad he was not good at putting pucks in the net while standing in front of the net

echoing what i said before though, it's unproveable, and i had said it after he got traded that as soon as there was any adversity against our guys, people were always going to pipe up and blame the lack of simmonds for the reason we were scrapping

like who's to say that any game we didn't fight was strictly due to simmonds being around? if fabbri and jack had this incident with wayne still around, thing would still get heated.

but anyway, on the bright side, i like that jack took it into his own hands and was willing to show a bit of fire. in a years time, all this won't matter... unless that pick we end up w (4th or 3rd) ends up being the next big thing

Jack went for a check and missed which is why Fabri suffered an injury.

Should've taken the hit-by-an-18-year-old like a Man. :sarcasm:

Coleman has 176 hits, 14th in the NHL and Simmonds has 128 hits, 52nd I’m the NHL. Now Wood leads with 90 (134th) and we don’t have and big hitters outside of Hayden.

It’s not a big deal this season but if this team wants to be “hard to play against” then it should consider how to get more physical players in the line-up outside of a 4th liner with the least ice time.

Fortunate for Jack that it wasn't direct knee-on-knee or he'd be out of action indefinitely.

Plus, an injury like that would hamper him and his development considerably going forward.

I think his last game proved he’s ready to be more than a backup. Fitz really should roll with Cory as the starter. I mean what could possibly go wrong?

Honestly, if we have to keep him on payroll, he could be backup if he can win a few damn games.. That's all we need.

Or go Senn route or something. Feel bad buying Cory out if it happens, but i guess it will be business..

He’s too unpredictable at this point to be counted on. If he wants to take the chance he gets stashed in Bingo at the first sign of regression I’d give him the chance to come to camp. I don’t think you can rely on him to be a primary backup. Maybe an emergency backup at Bingo who gets called up if MBW or a primary backup get hurt. If Senn turns out to be the real deal maybe he gets passed next season and is released at the end of next season. I agree the cap hit isn’t the issue but you only have so many goalies and do you want him taking up a slot from someone else who might be able to help in the future? It’s not easy and he is by all accounts a great guy and it’s a shame this is where the team is with him.

i definitely rather see a young goaltender as backup and hopefully that pans out, provided that guy won't have a Louie type season like we saw. If that is the case (some Keith clone), i'd rather roll the dice with Cory for backup.

Nonono... No dice rolling. Pay a bit of our 38m cap space and grab halak for a year or two at 3m. I'm done with wondering when the first period softie is coming.
