Could be because Coleman was UFA after this year while Noesen was only RFA.

Coleman would have been an unrestricted free agent next year, so this buys them some UFA years which is worthwhile.

Noesen is still a restricted free agent next year, so this ultimately appears to be a bridge to the next contract. Makes a similar salary to Coleman and if he performs similarly or better next year, probably looks at a multi-year deal then with a raise.

Noesen probably asked for more, Ray told him to take 1 year deal, and prove how good he is.

Yeah, I think at the end of the day there was a mutual understanding that with him still being RFA eligible next year, that they'll match a similar salary to Coleman and revisit discussing next year. Hopefully he has another strong year and we see a similar deal to Coleman's 3 year deal at a slight raise.
