That's historically bad!

Since the 2004 lockout, the worst team in a full season was the '18-19 Blackhawks at 72.7%. The Predators, Flyers, and Red Wings are currently below that percentage as well.

It's still early in the season though. They've only played 13 games so chances are this will significantly improve. But they definitely looked like beer league quality yesterday!

You should apologize to all beer league players of the world for that comment.

I want to cry when I see them on the PK. Standing still and passively trying to block some passing lanes is not the recipe for a good PK it would seem, who would have guessed. They did lose some important penalty killers from previous seasons though and the team is very young. Powerkill, ugh, I mean powerplay has also been rather lackluster. Horrible at times even. If they fix the special units and get to even average percentages their record will look a lot better. Hard to win games when you can't score on the PP and get murdered on the PK.

PK'ing shouldn't be that hard. Even if you suck at it, a basic level of effort and positioning combined with basic competence in net should create a respectable result. They can't say at 60% forever if they have NHL players on the ice.

Might as well flip a coin on every penalty against and save everyone the 2 minutes. That is a terrible stat. I don't care how terrible a team is, their PK should be near the odds of a coin flip.

Not doom and gloom yet. They played only 13 games. Hawks in the 2016-17 season started out below 50% on the PK their first 10-12 games of the season before bumping it up to the high 70s. They will turn it around

Just the other day I had an NJ fan tell me they were elite defensively because of some random advanced stats 5v5, I guess that's why the PK stats weren't mentioned. 59% is terrible

The Devils team doesn't block any shots so that probably is a huge part of it. The player with the most blocked shots is Subban who is ranked 84th league wide. I'm guessing the coaches told them not to do it as much, Maybe they view this season as a write-off and want players to develop as much as possible so they don't want them to risk injury from blocking shots?

Elite defensively is definitely pushing it, but 5 on 5 they've actually been fine. Special teams, especially the PK, has sunk them so far.

Don't worry, they have 8 games against the Pens to come, these PK numbers will definitely improve then.

I expect them to break the record given that they have essentially stopped practicing due to their schedule.

Their 1st unit PK prior to Covid was good. It was Zajac-Zacha-Murray-Severson. similar to last couple seasons except Murray is in for Greene.

They didn't have enough forwards with experience to field a 2nd unit. They used Sharangovich-Palmieri not because they are good but other options (Wood, Gusev, etc.) were even worse. Those two didn't know when to challenge the puck so ended up just sitting there in the shooting lanes. It led to extended shifts lasting well over a minute without being able to clear the puck.

Zajac was out a few games prior to the outbreak and Murray has been out a few games after the return so its looked even worse now.

The Wild’s single digit PP would be the perfect stoppable force to meet their movable object.
Devils pp also right around 10%. someone needs to lose a job if this doesn't change soon. I kid you not, EVERY loss has been directly on special teams.
