LINDY RUFF NEEDS VIAGRA!!
Welp...
Just as Big Mac was the reason he kept the Devils in it the previous game(and got them a Point), he is unfortunately the reason (not the Main reason but part of the reason) the Devils could not pull off the win.
He really had a rough go at it today but I'm still a believer in him and he will bounce back.
But I think Wedge starts in the next game as Mac needs to take a break.
Also, poor Sevs just had a tough time of it as well....and his stick felt his wrath(hockey stick that is).
As for the rest of the team, they didn't play all that bad actually.
Kulikov and Murray were very solid. It would suck to lose one of them.
Travis all of a sudden turned into a Goal-scorer today which is always an unexpected (but welcome) thing to see.
He opened up the scoring off an unexpected great feed by Nick f'n Merkley(didn't know Nick could pass) :
Of course after that, the Caps put up 3 goals on the Devils (2 of the goals, according to our resident Goaltender expert @Bleedred was unstoppable but the third was ugly as sin) and the Devils were in a hole.
Then Sharangovich with the aggressiveness I wish a certain *SOMEONE*(whom I'll get into later) would copy, unleashes one hell of a shot and a goal that brought everyone to their feet :
That MAN is a very good NHL player. END OF STORY.
Now at that point, the period ended and the Devils were down by just 1 goal (3-2) so many of us were thinking like Jim Carrey(in Dumb And Dumber) was thinking : "So you're telling me there's a chance?".
Of course, Reality once more hit us square in the nuts..AGAIN...and the Caps put up 2 more goals on now confidence-shaken Mackenzie Blackwood.
But credit the Devils for not giving up.
Now....Let me bring attention to Jesper...F'N....Bratt. This guy, whom I'm a big fan of, had just *ONE* Shot-On-Goal going into the 3rd period. *ONE*.
I was beside myself at watching someone who has shown that he can shoot the puck (I don't count that 7 ft paddle as a real shot on goal) just not shoot it but pass it.
Anyway, it seems he may have been reading my(and everyone else's)frustrations on this board 'cause he then did this :
ABOUT. GODDAMN. TIME. (and that's all I will say)
Moving on, the Devils got some momentum from that goal it seems 'cause later on, Travis Gretzky scored again to make it a game of what was supposed to be a Blowout loss :
Zajac scores second goal of game
Devils ended up pulling the Goaltender but couldn't complete what could've been one of, if not, the most improbably comeback we've seen this season.
Still, good on the Devils for not quitting.
It's still a loss but at least it's a loss that had some POSITIVES in it aside from a Goaltender playing well(previous game).
BTW, I would be remiss if I did not point out how amazing Jack Hughes was today. He looked like the player we expected when they Drafted him for the first time in awhile today.
But whether it's his lack of finish(that he needs to work on) or lack of teammates that can finish(that Fitz needs to work on) or that the Caps have a horseshoe up their collective ass whenever they played us this season, that does not negate the fact that Jack played well (and finally got a point after the fact, for his efforts).
I'm glad this NIGHTMARE Series against this Franchise is over.
I hope the Isles knock the F out of them both figuratively, literally, and OUT of the Playoffs.
And now we will have 18 of the next 20 games against teams the Devils actually have a shot at WINNING.
And I can't wait.
LET'S GO DEVILS!!!
