Volchenkov has been brilliant for 3 straight games now. He's turned back the clock quite effectively. Zidlicky has been amazing offensively.

Greene has been dog **** some games and good in other games. Fayne was alright tonight I thought. Greene played worse.

Yeah I've been surprised by Volchenkov. He's been making better reads in the D zone and, at least to me, it seems like he's been hurling the puck out of the zone at first touch less often. Devils need both him and Salvador to get on the right page in terms of breakouts. No coincidence Jagr thought tonight was the best game so far in terms of transitioning on the breakout.

We had a lot of losses last year that weren't bad losses either. Like our back to back shutouts at the hands of Toronto and Ottawa. Every goalie we play looks like Hasek.

If Pete will leave the players that deserve to be in the lineup in, I'd actually be optimistic that the team could scratch and claw their way to the playoffs and possibly even win a round in this weak division based on what I saw tonight. Still need scoring to improve from somewhere first. Henrique especially needs to jump start offense. Wish he could have a few games with josefson and brunner

He should not back any changes for the Bruins game. Maybe JJ for Olesz. Let them play. Don't mind giving Marty it back. Cory lost two in a row, but the guys in front played to well to be benched.

i noticed luongo seems extra happy to beat cory.

i don't buy that they loved each other. luongo seems to relish in beating him twice now.

Greene has not been good this season, at all. Fayne was shaky again tonight, he needs to be better when given chances. Volchenkov has actually played better the last couple games and hopefully he keeps it up, doesn't fix his contract though but it would make it easier to stomach.

We just played last year's Vezina winner, and Luongo who is still a top notch goalie (and his team is really good too). They aren't Hasek, but we aren't playing scrubs.

Exactly, I get being annoyed because we lost again and we need wins, but this wasn't a "bad" lose.

The word is "loss" and in the short-term, it's not a bad one considering that they did look much better.

However, that's one less game off the schedule and closer to one less 1st-rounder. That's what makes *any* loss(not just this one) "bad".

Jeeze I could hug you two right now.

I noticed the same thing with Larsson. By the third period he seemed way more aggressive and had some of that selfishness you wanna see out of a talented kid. You can tell they really complimented each other.

This really was a good game all around for Larsson and Gelinas. Pete already said that Gelinas was "excellent", so you know there's no way he coming out for Saturday. Harrold is definitely gonna be picking splinters now.

Weren't you the one who just said in the game thread(or was it this one?) that there comes a time where we can't just say "we ran into a hot goalie" anymore?

Maybe I'm wrong...

Every goalie we play looks good. Except for that Lundqvist impersonator the other night.

We've been shutout by Al frickin Montoya. The same Al Montoya that Winnipeg hasn't even given a start to since. Joey MacDonald looked good against us too. We take a lot of shots, but they really aren't threatening.

If this happened some of the time I would say it's bad luck. If this happened against Luongo, but didn't happen against trash cans I would agree it's bad luck. It's just become the identity of the team at this point. Our shooting percentage has to be a league worst since February.

Pros:

Our young defensemen. Gelinas was fantastic today, generating shots on goal (including a score!), moving the puck, and manning the point in the offensive zone better than any other d-man we've seen lately. He needs to stay in the lineup. Adam Larsson was almost as good, and showed some confidence I hadn't seen from him in a while. I loved how Chico pointed out he learned from his mistake in OT when he dumped the puck and it turned into an immediate turnover. Sure enough, next time he's bringing the puck up he gets creative and sets up Jagr for a great scoring chance.

The Elias-Loktionov-Jagr line. This line today was all about controlling the puck, generating chances, and playing hard, and it paid off with Patty's goal. They were tough to play against and seemed to read each other's minds at times.

The Cons:

Cory Schneider: A puckhandling gaffe led to a soft goal, and a misread in the shootout sealed the fate of the game. Cory had a bad night and he knew it. I have high hopes for rebounding, especially with the good defense being played in front of him lately.

Adam Henrique: He was invisible this whole game. I don't think I heard his name once. Don't know what else to say.

Also, concerning the shootouts, sans Elias, every single player on the Devils should be thinking one of two things: Wrist shot or Slap shot. They just do not have the ability to deke. They suck at it and it's a waste of an attempt. I'm going to lose it if I see any more forehand, backhand, shoot wide deke attempts. I'd rather see a wrister square in the chest of the goalie. At least the miniscule chance of it going in actually exists.

Gelinas will most likely play next game, but what about when Salvador comes back? You know it won't be a veteran coming out of the lineup, that would mess with the winning chemistry we got going on, so it'll have to be either Larsson or Fayne. And since Fayne has been playing worse than Larsson, it'll be Larsson that sits.

Yes I did say that. What I mean is that every goalie looks like Hasek against us when you look at the shot clock. Constantly we get 25-30 shots on net and have 2 goals to show for it. They don't actually look like Dominik Hasek when we play them. Their save percentage just does.
Our shooting percentage is very bad.

It's almost to the point where we should pull the goalie in the last minute of OT, especially against the West teams. And yes, I'm being serious.

Oh okay.

Yeah it's pretty awful but what can be done about it? :dunno:

Volchenkov has been very good. Biggest problem I see is 10 games in they havent won a 3rd period yet. A good third period for them is being even either 1-1 (Isles game) or 0-0 (Rangers game - both Canucks games)

Volchenkov sucks!

I think we need a new system cause the one we're playing now isn't giving us enough finish. Even the goals we've scored lately, I can't remember too many coming off a heavy forechecking shift. At least not at even strength.
